Travel Bucket List 2016

I love to travel and go to new places. I think that exploring this amazing world that we live in is the best thing anyone can do! By coming into contact with new people and places, we broaden our horizons. So that’s why I’m so excited to be able to share with you my list of places I’ll be traveling to in 2016! From Central America to the wild wild West, to very close to home, I have lots of exciting things planned! I can’t wait to hear where you’ll be going too ๐Ÿ™‚

MY TRAVEL BUCKET LIST

First let me preface this list by saying that I am very lucky to be given so many opportunities to travel! I can’t express enough how lucky I feel as a 19 year old to be able to visit amazing places like these. But anyway, without further ado!

1) The Wild West!

I’m going to be spending my summer working as a counselor on a giant Boy Scout camp in the Rocky Mountains! I’m a Vermonter who’s never been further west than Minneapolis, so to be traveling approximately 1,861 miles to New Mexico for a summer job is something I’m really looking forward to!

2) The Dominican Republic

I am so excited to be heading to the beautiful Dominican Republic in March. However, this isn’t a vacation! I’m volunteeringย with a nonprofit foundation called Wine To Water to help bring clean drinking water to people who can’t access it. We’ll be drilling wells and making water filters to distribute! I hope to make a difference there, even just in my small way. Clean water is such a huge environmental issue, and it’s one I’m passionate about.

(If you’d like to donate to my fundraising efforts for this cause, you can click here! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

3) Climb 3 Adirondack mountains!

I love to hike, and one of my lifelong bucket list items is to climb all 46 of the Adirondack mountains. This year I want to be able to add 3 to my list! They’re all located in upstate New York, so it should be fairly easy haha! Some of the peaks are really quite difficult though. I’ll start off simple!

There’s my travel plans for 2016! Hopefully I’ll get to add some more day trips in as we go through 2016 ๐Ÿ™‚ Where are you headed this year? What places have you always wanted to go to?ย Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

My New Year’s Resolutions

Hey guys!

As my last post of 2015, I want to share with you my New Year’s resolutions. But first, I want to thank you.

Thank you to every single person who has taken the time to visit my blog, comment on a post, leave a like, or subscribe. Thank you for the sweet comments and for helping me out via Twitter when I struggle with WordPress. Thank you for the inspiration from your blogs, and thank you so much for letting me be part of this amazing blogging community. I’ve only been blogging for 9 months, and it’s my favorite thing. So a big thank you to each and every one of you!

So, without further ado, here are my resolutions for 2016 ๐Ÿ™‚

HALDEN

Step out of my comfort zone. Say yes! I’m making a rule for myself to say yes to one new experience a week in 2016. People grow due toย their experiences, and I’m always excited to try new things. But, I don’t want to stretch myself too thin, so I’ll pick and choose my priorities more carefully as well.

Grow my blog.ย I love being creative and interacting with all of you in my little online space, and I can’t wait to make my content even better and grow my readership. Side note: I also plan to rewrite those embarrassing first posts haha!

Improve my photography. I love taking pictures, and I want to get myself some new equipment and really see what I can do this next year. There’s always something to learn!

Let go of my need to always be right.ย I believe that to be happy, we need to not stress the small stuff. Learning to go with the flow sometimes could help me relax more ๐Ÿ™‚

Spend less time online. I spend a ton of time online, either blogging, doing homework, or endlessly scrolling through social media. I need to unplug a little more and do more real-life projects!

And of course, travel more!ย I have a couple really exciting adventures coming up in the new year, and I can’t wait to share them with you all ๐Ÿ™‚

What are your resolutions for the New Year? I’d love to hear about the exciting things you’ll all be doing. Let me know in the comments, and as always, thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

Insta Roundup #2

Happy Wednesday! Who’s ready for Christmas? I’m trying to get in the spirit, but unfortunately I just had my wisdom teeth removed and I’m feeling pretty miserable. I was hoping to put up an OOTD for you guys today, but the pouring rain and my drugged-up, puffy face kinda stood in the way of that haha. That’ll have to wait for next time! In the meantime, since I’ve been spending so much time in bed, I thought I’d share with you guys what I’ve been doing lately, which is mostly Instagram and Snapchat haha. If you missed the last installment, check out Insta Roundup #1 too!

  1. OOTD shot from this post! Loving rompers and beanies so much right not, especially since we have no snow ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Thanks to my little sister for being my reluctant photographer haha!
  2. Writing blog posts, having some lemon tea, and making arrangements for my next adventure! I’m super excited to be volunteering in the Dominican Republic this spring-but more on that later!
  3. An outfit shot from Mustard x Navy, showing again my love for beanies ๐Ÿ™‚ I must have at least 10!
  4. Thanks to my lovely boyfriend for taking “candid” photos of me haha, even if he does so begrudgingly!
  5. The weather’s been so crazy lately, this from where I stand photo was taken in December! I need some snow here soon, although I think my hopes for a white Christmas are in vain…
  6. Another shot from the previous OOTD. I love putting photos in black and white haha.
  7. Throwback to warmer weather on the lake where I live at school! Can’t wait to get back to that gorgeous place.
  8. Shameless selfie showing off my makeup look of the day #noregrets! Check out what I used to create this look here.
  9. Last but not least, a little inspiration to get us through the week! Don’t forget to live each day to the fullest ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you guys love Instagram as much as I do? (To be fair, I love it a lot haha!) Please leave your Insta handles in the comments, or just follow me on Instagram and I’ll be sure to give you a follow back! I love checking out fellow bloggers’ accounts ๐Ÿ™‚

Instagram can definitely be a time suck, but to me it’s totally worth it! What do you think? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by! ๐Ÿ™‚

Insta Roundup #1

Instagram is probably my favorite type of social media. I check it more than Facebook or Twitter or Pinterest-I think it’s safe to say I’m obsessed! I’ve been seeing Instagram roundups everywhere lately, and I really enjoy reading them! It’s such fun to see snapshots into other people’s lives (at least I think so! Maybe I’m just nosy haha), so I thought I’d do one too! If you’d like to follow me, you can click here– I’d love to check out your accounts! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you guys enjoy.

  1. Top left. Throwing it back to my Spain hiking adventures this summer! (You can read about those here, here, or here if you like!)
  2. Middle top. I dressed as a flapper this Halloween with some 1920s inspired makeup- I think it came out pretty well! (I took about 10,000 versions of this selfie before settling on the perfect one- can you tell haha?)
  3. Top right. Stopped along a river on a road trip to take this snap of the fall colors.
  4. Left side. Having fun while shooting a recent OOTD- you can check out more shots from that over here if you like.
  5. Left side middle. Yes I take a lot of pictures of myself…are you seeing a theme here? I do admit that most of my Insta photos relate to blogging and what I’m currently wearing! However if you like these kinds of accounts you may enjoy that, I don’t know… I promise I’m not a total narcissist all the time!
  6. Right middle.ย Okay maybe it seems like I am…shameless selfie…so sorry. I was feeling my straight hair that day! Can anyone recommend a good heat protectant for straightening hair?
  7. Bottom left. Missing the summer weather so much right now…shot from a past OOTD.
  8. Right side middle. Another shot from this post.
  9. Right bottom.ย Showing off my new favorite eyeshadow, Bad To The Bronze by Maybelline. Read more about it in my November Favorites if you like.

As you can see, I definitely use my Instagram for #ootds, among a few other things! What do you think of Insta roundups? What kinds of photos do you usually post? Are you as obsessed as me haha? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by! ๐Ÿ™‚

November Favorites

It’s finally Friday! And November is drawing to a close, which means it’s time for me to share with you what I’ve been loving this month. Take a peek!

novfaves1

First up are these amazing stickers! The great people at CaseApp and StickerApp offered to send me these fun stickers with the name of my blog! I was so excited when these came in the mail I nearly peed myself!! (just kidding haha!) But I’m seriously super pumped about these, they’re made of an awesome sturdy vinyl. I’m just not sure what to do with them, though…any suggestions?

novfaves2

My younger sister gave me these cute little candies that she found at a candy shop-they’re absinthe flavored, and I think the packaging is simply adorable! I’d never seen them before, but I think they’d make a great stocking stuffer! They come in tons of flavors. Find them here!

novfaves6

Next up: my new favorite pants! I’d show you them on, but I don’t want to ruin the #OOTD that is to come! I really love the Southwest inspired print, and they’re even high-waisted. They’re out of stock now sadly ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

novfaves5

Last but not least, Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow in Bad To The Bronze! I’m so obsessed. So. Obsessed. It lives up to its 24 hour lasting claim, it”s creamy, it’s super pigmented, and just overall amazing! I’m going to collect all the colors haha. It’s definitely worth the $8! One of my top ever drugstore buys, for sure.

So there you have it! What have you been loving this month? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

Poppies and Peter Pan Collars

Surprisingly, I’m enjoying some of the new updates to WordPress. The option to display photos in different ways is actually useful! What do you think of today’s all-circles layout? However, I’m not a huge fan of some of their other changes to their formats. More on that in a later post, though!

Anyway, today’s OOTD features one of my latest favorite items! I found this red dress at one of my local thrift stores for just $8, and it fits perfectly! It features a peter pan collar and an allover red, white, and grey poppy print. I can’t stop wearing it lately!

Back in middle school and the beginnings of high school I was obsessed with wearing just all black and concert tee shirts…*shudders*! If me at 18ย had met me at 14, I’m sure Iย would have told me I needed a serious style makeover! However sometimes it’s hard to keep away from what used to be your default way of dressing…I saw this dress and thought that a grungy/indie vibe was just what it needed. I grabbed my trusty black Converse and some black knit knee socks, and of course a beanie, and voila!ย I had to grab a nice dark lipstick too of course. I kept the rest of my makeup neutral except for defining my eyebrows.

Dress: Thrifted, Knee Socks: Payless, Sneakers: Converse, Beanie: Forever21, Lipstick: Milani in Cabaret Blend.

It can be super hard to avoid your style roots, but overall I really like how this turned out! What do you think? Do you ever revert to what you style used to be? What do you think of the changes to WordPress? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

6 Study Tips For College Kids (And Other Busy People)

Hey there everyone! As a current college student, sometimes I feel like my life is totally consumed by my classes and schoolwork. Nursing requires hours of studying from the textbook every night, and it can get really overwhelming. So I wanted to share with you some of my tips for successful studying and keeping the stress levels controlled. I think that these tips work not only for college kids, but for busy bloggers as well! Read on for more!

college4

1. Use Your Resources.

Tutors aren’t just there to look pretty-they’re there to help you succeed! Same with your professors. Their job is to help you learn, so take advantage of that and go to office and tutoring hours to review any questions you might have and stay on top of your work.

college2

2. Set aside a specific time to study each day.

It’s hard to make study time a priority in college with so many time demands from friends, clubs, and work. Make sure to set aside a specific time every day to study, so that you get into a routine and get used to doing it each day.

3. Put away distractions.

Turn that phone off and put it where you can’t see it. Out of sight, out of mind! If you don’t need it to study, put your computer away and just focus on the textbook or notes you took. Which brings us to number 4-

college5

4. Take good notes.

Taking notes might seem time consuming and difficult while in class, but they’re so helpful to look back on and connect the material from the textbook to what your professor is saying. Studies have shown that if you don’t take notes, 60% of what you hear in class is forgotten after just 9 hours- yikes! Avoid this by reviewing and rewriting your notes after class to help you retain the information.

5. Eat Healthy Snacks.

Snacking is something all of us do, but when you’re stressed and studying it’s too easy to sit down with a new bag of chips and find it’s empty an hour later! Stock up on healthier snacks like blueberries, yogurt, and almonds that contain brain-boosting compounds (and taste delicious too).

college6

6. Leave time for yourself. ย

Sure, studying is really important. And you’re in college to learn. But breaks are important too; they give your brain time to recharge and help you do better in the long run. Take a 15 minute break for every hour of studying, and you’ll find yourself much less stressed than trying to do all of it at once. Grab dinner with friends or binge-watch some Netflix (I recommend Once Upon A Time ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). It won’t kill you or your GPA to take a break every once in a while!

I targeted this post towards college kids like me, but I think these tips can be applied to blog work as well! What do you think? What study strategies do you use? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by! ๐Ÿ™‚

4 Ways To Make A House A Home

photo-1430285561322-7808604715df

Happy Thursday, everyone! I hope your week is going well ๐Ÿ™‚ Today I want to talk about something I love doing-decorating! This past Saturday I moved into my first ever house! Granted, it’s still technically campus housing, and I’m sharing it with two lovely housemates, but it’s still the first time I’ve been living away from home outside of a dorm! I’m super excited. It’s so much fun to have your own space to do what you like with, but at the same time, it can be super stressful to have the added responsibility of caring for an entire house. Here are my favorite low-maintenance ways to make a living space feel lived in with minimal effort!

1: Plants!

Plants are the perfect way to making your surroundings more aesthetically pleasing and add a little freshness to a room. I prefer succulents and cacti, because they require less upkeep than regular plants, and they’re still gorgeous! If you like, you can plant them in cute pots like these ones from Etsy to fit the theme of your space.

2: Decorate Your Walls

Tapestries and posters can instantly transform a space. You can find something to suit any style. I love my concert posters and mandala tapestry, but if your tastes don’t lean toward a boho style, there’s lots of different ways to decorate! I love motivational posters like the one below. If you do like tapestries, you can find my blue one here!

3: Set Up Your Space

One great (and free!) way to make a house feel like a home is to rearrange the furniture the way that you like it. If, like me, you’re living in a prefurnished house or in a dorm room, the way the furniture was left by the previous occupants may not suit you. Rearranging it to the way you prefer it will make you feel more like the house is really yours, and you’ll feel more comfortable there!

4: Make Your Workspace Appealing

Since I both love blogging and am a student, big part of my life is sitting at my desk. I’m sure a lot of you are in the same boat! It’s so much easier to get work done when you want to be sitting in that space, as I’m sure you know. Sunshine is essential for me, as well as fun desk accessories!ย Here are some of the desk decor items I’ve been loving!

I stuck to a color theme here, but you can find pieces to match anything! I find that metallics and bright colors make me feel more energized.
