Hopeless Romantic

There is usually no such thing as a perfect photoshoot.

Either I have camera issues, or the light is weird, or it’s last minute and I don’t create the vision I intended. I originally planned on a completely different outfit for this post, something classy and vintage inspired. But the shots were coming out weird, and I just wasn’t feeling the look. So I scrapped that last minute and threw on something I felt comfortable in.

It turned out silly and weird and awesome, and I’m super happy with this set of photos. I think they really captured me haha, and I had so much fun taking them. I had to sort through a lot of bloopers to find these ones, but I’m super pleased with it! Hope you enjoy this OOTD 🙂

A fun story about the tee I’m wearing here: I actually bought it in the children’s section of Old Navy while helping a friend look for a gift for her niece. It’s a child’s large, I think kids’ clothes today must run a lot bigger than they used to! Anyway, I just kinda liked the graphic on it, and it only cost $1.99 haha. I threw a bunch of layers on and called it a day.

Overall this look may be silly or childish or messy; it’s certainly not high fashion! I love its odd layers and untied Converse and messy ponytails though, I feel that it really captures who I am: a silly, hopeless romantic who’s far from perfect. And I think that’s what fashion is supposed to do: capture who we are.

Like The Cool Kids

I loved playing dress-up as a kid, and I still do today! I love to put an outfit on that helps you become someone who would wear that outfit- in other words, I think how we dress can shape how we act. Today I dressed up as a different version of me 🙂

If someone was to ask me to pick on outfit to wear for the rest of my life, it would probably be a black romper. I think rompers are the most versatile pieces! You can wear them by themselves, layer them with tights and a cardigan like I did, and even dress them up with heels and a statement necklace! I love this particular romper, with its sweetheart neckline, cute pattern, and pockets (!!!). Combined with a beanie and boots, it makes me feel like I’m playing dress up as an edgier version of myself.

Romper, Cardigan, Boots, Beanie, Septum Ring

I’ve always loved adding fun details to my outfits, so when I found this septum ring (fake, don’t worry!) in a shop the other day, I thought it would add an edgy touch. The only danger is, I like it so much I kind of think I need one now! What do you think? I really like the cool-girl,  edgy, street-style vibe it brings, but I think my dad would probably kill me haha! Is it worth the tradeoff? You tell me!

Adding details like the nose ring and the beanie to this outfit definitely helped me channel my inner cool-girl (well, maybe she’s in there somewhere, buried deep down!) What do you put on to dress up as a different version of you? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Mustard x Navy

Before you ask- yes I am aware that it is December, and yes I know that I live in the state of New York haha. However, I do think that since it hasn’t snowed yet, crop tops are still appropriate attire! Maybe that’s my inner New Englander showing though haha. Us Vermonters wear shorts in 40 degree weather and trudge through feet of snow without blinking an eye! (Okay, we’ll probably complain about it a bit.) Can you tell I’m a bit homesick haha? I can’t wait for finals to be over so I can go home and see my family and friends.

Anyway, today’s OOTD features a pair of pants I discussed in my November Favorites post! This comfy pair of printed cotton pants from Forever 21 are my favorite pair lately! They’re high-waisted and they have pockets! I paired them with a black racerback ribbed crop top that I knotted. (See it styled with a skirt here!) I topped off the look with a beanie. (that I definitely did NOT steal from my boyfriend…hehe)

As I continue to blog, I find myself coming up with ideas on how to improve my photography! I still have just a little point-and-shoot camera, but I’m saving up for a nicer one 🙂 I really like how these photos came out! I found a shipping crate on campus to use as my backdrop, and I love how the mustard and navy shades balance each other. I’ve been following lots of photography blogs on Pinterest lately, so hopefully some of their tips will end up paying off! 🙂

In other news, I’m realizing by looking at these pictures how awfully pasty and white I am! (Any good self tanners? 😉 )The sun practically reflects off me haha.

Earthy Grunge

Happy Wednesday! It may be November, but here in upstate New York we’re having a heat wave! It’s been in the seventies for the past couple days, and while I’m loving it, I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop, because I’m sure we’ll be back to 40 degrees out before you know it! I’m enjoying not having to wear heavy coats for now.

tank2

Today I’m wearing a comfy tank courtesy of StyleArt, a company that sells items with prints by independent designers on them! They give 20% of the proceeds to the designers as well as offering them the opportunity to promote themselves. I chose this fun toucan-print tank in black. The material is great, and the print doesn’t get gross or flake off after one wash like a lot of graphic tops do in my experience. It does run really big, however. I got a small and it’s definitely quite oversized on me as you can see. Overall I’m very happy with it!

tank4

tank1

I styled the tank with a pair of black leggings, black booties, and my trusty denim jacket. Since the shirt is so low cut on me, I added my favorite lace bralette to just peek out around the neckline a little bit.
tank3

I added dreamcatcher earrings and some leather bracelets to finish off the look, as well as a dark red manicure and a brighter red lip.

tank5

tank6

This kind of multi-faceted casual look is my favorite to wear. The bralette and leggings make it so comfy, the denim, black, and red nails add edgy vibes, while the leather bracelets bring it back down to earth. Combining multiple styles is one of my favorite things to do!

Prairie Chic (with eShakti)

As you guys may have noticed, I hardly ever wear pants. Most of my wardrobe consists of dresses and skirts, so when eShakti reached out to me to collaborate and asked me to pick a piece out to review, of course it was going to be a dress. I picked out this floral navy number, and I’m in love with it!

eshakti2

I chose this dress because of the pretty print and the sheer sleeves, but online it looked shorter than it is. When it came I was surprised, but I actually think I like the longer length now that I’m used to it. My housemate said it looked “prairie chic”, like I’m from the Old West haha. eShakti gives you the option to customize your order in a lot of ways, including length, neckline, and even sleeve type, but I liked the dress as it was! It has a drawstring neck featuring a cutout, and it came with pockets, which is always a plus 🙂eshakti6eshakti7eshakti4eshakti9eshakti3eshakti10eshakti5

I added my tan booties and a silver cuff to add to the prairie/boho vibe I was feeling in this dress. This is definitely a dress I’m going to be wearing a lot this winter, the longer length and sleeves make it warm and comfy.

eshakti11

Overall I was very impressed with eShakti! I’m often wary of buying dresses online, but the size I ordered fit perfectly, and if you’re worried about fit, you can put in your measurements and customize the fit to your body! Like I mentioned before, you can also change the sleeves, neckline, length, and other aspects of the dress so you’re getting something uniquely yours! You can check out eShakti here, or on their Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram.

Ramblings and Retro Vibes

babydoll2

Hey guys, happy Friday! Here’s to the weekend! It’s been a crazy busy couple of weeks now that I’m back at school, and it’s only going to get worse I think! I’m starting nursing clinicals, have a full course load, have a work study job, am a member of an insane ELEVEN school clubs, and am somehow still running this blog and making time for friends. I’m stressed, but I don’t really mind; I think I thrive on being busy. Not to say I don’t love vacation time, but keeping to a schedule really makes me feel productive somehow. But let’s talk about this outfit!

Today’s outfit of the day features some of my favorite fall staples: dresses, fringe, booties, and knee-high socks! I picked up this open-back babydoll dress from Forever21 the other week and I love it so much! It’s such an easy piece to throw on on a busy morning. I added all-black accessories like this scarf, these knee socks, and booties in order to not overwhelm the outfit, and topped it off with my favorite statement necklace and a swipe of bold lipstick.

babydoll3

 babydoll1

I feel very 70’s retro-chic in this outfit, I think mostly due to the fringe, the suede booties and the layers. Those things are perfect for fall too though, and I’ve never been one to hold back from a retro look!

I’ve also discovered I really need a new camera; my little digital one is just not cutting it anymore. I’ve decided I have to save up and get myself something really nice for my travel, hiking, and blog photos. The problem is, I don’t know what to get! What type of camera do you guys use? Any recommendations?

Do you thrive on schedules too or do you do better with a more laid-back pace? What are your favorite fall staples? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

Short Hair, Short Skirt, Don’t Care

     I hate being professional.

shorthair1

I think that fashion shouldn’t be restricted. I hate dress codes in any form. I feel that restricting what I can wear is like restricting my freedom of speech. Fashion is art. I will use my fashion as graffiti if I want to- bold, larger than life, full color six stories high!

shorthair4

But I totally get why we need dress codes. We have to have some semblance of professionalism in the workplace, in the classroom, in order to properly represent the institution I attend.

shorthair2

As a nursing student, I’m constantly followed by dress codes. Nothing too short, no crop tops, closed-toed shoes only. No dyed hair, no fake nails, no nail polish. No shorts, no jeans, nothing low cut. Nothing fun!! I feel like I’m being stifled and strangled!

shorthair5

So here is an outfit that’s totally inappropriate for class, work, and anywhere else I have to be, featuring a crop top and a too-short skirt. Fashion is the best form of self-expression; it’s the one that everyone everywhere takes part in every day.

shorthair3

On another note, I cut my hair and I’m loving it! I took off about 8 inches, which is the most I’ve ever done! It was time for a change 🙂

shorthair6

The top I’m wearing in this post is featured in Back To School Haul, while my ankle booties can be seen again in my August Favorites post.

What do you think? How do you feel about dress codes? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Landslide

Today I’m channeling some serious seventies vibes! This outfit was my take on the great seventies trends that have been going on this season. I couldn’t help titling the post after the classic Stevie Nicks song-I just love her!

I wore my new romper that I just received from Forever21. I’d never bought a romper before, and I was hesitant to try them out, but I’m so glad I did! They’re such a versatile addition to any wardrobe-there’s so many different styles, so no matter what your style is you can find one for you-whether you prefer bohemian, preppy, or edgier vibes. I’m 5’8″, so finding ones that fit me has been really difficult! I was pretty worried about this one, but the wonderful Forever21 came through again, and it luckily fits perfectly. I added a long knit cardigan, my heeled suede booties, lots of jewelry, and my new favorite hat- this amazing maroon sunhat!

nicks1

This romper features lace straps and edging, as well as pockets, an elastic waist, and adorable buttons up the back! I added some of my favorite silver necklaces too at different lengths. I swiped on some plum lipstick to match the maroon sunhat too!

nicks2 nicks5

nicks8

Channeling Stevie Nicks by spinning in my cardigan…I’m going to need a floral kimono to properly copy her!

nicks4

nicks6

I added some volume and curl to my hair with my favorite salt spray. I love all the 70s trends cropping up, so I added as many as possible to this outfit-round sunnies, lots of jewelry, big floppy hats, and suede booties! I just need something fringe to complete it!

Day Trippin’

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I spent my Saturday taking a road trip adventure! Since I’m not originally from the area I live in now, I decided to explore somewhere I’d never been before. We found some great spots in the nearby town of Cooperstown NY, home to the National Baseball Hall Of Fame. I even managed to squeeze in an outfit to share with you all! I love taking these little day trips around the area. They’re such a great opportunity to just relax and explore somewhere you’ve never been before!

coop3

We found a cute little park right on the edge of the lake. It was such a gorgeous day outside, I finally got to break out my summer shorts!

coop10

coop5

I chose my white denim shorts and added a loose patterned print top. Some silver necklaces, a mustard satchel, and my trusty ankle-strap sandals round out the look! Comfortable shoes and a large purse or backpack to hold your essentials are a must for day trips like these. I threw on a grey cardigan to combat the wind coming off the lake. Easy, breezy, comfy, and road-trip ready!

After staying awhile by the lakeside, we walked through the adorable downtown area of Cooperstown and found a great little sandwich shop called the Stagecoach. I tried out the Dolce Vita- a ham, mozzarella, avocado, and pesto panini. it was incredibly delicious, and I definitely recommend checking the place out if you’re ever in the area!  We then stopped by a lovely little bakery, and I couldn’t resist a slice of the chocolate ganache torte…it was so delicious and rich!

How To Wear A Flower Crown

The other day, I shared with you a tutorial on how to make your very own flower crown for under $3. If you missed it, check it out here! I couldn’t resist shooting an outfit featuring it 🙂 I always love seeing pictures featuring flower crowns on various websites such as Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr, and everyone I see wearing one styles it in a different way! Here’s how I styled mine-how do you style yours?

neahwa2

neahwa3

I paired a floral skirt with a black crop top, and added a denim jacket and my trusty ankle booties. I kept my makeup simple, with just a swipe of bright pink lipstick to match the center flower. Get a closer look at this lipstick here!

I had so much fun taking these pictures! It was a gorgeous day out, and everything is better in the sunlight! It’s hard to stay stressed when it’s such a gorgeous day outside 🙂 Sunshine and the promise of summer make me instantly feel more optimistic, so I’ve got my fingers crossed hoping it sticks around for a while!

neahwa10

neahwa11

I’m so happy with how this DIY crown turned out! I love the huge flowers, but some may prefer to choose smaller ones for theirs in order to not feel overpowered. To each his own! The DIY works great with any size or shape of flower.
