6 Study Tips For College Kids (And Other Busy People)

Hey there everyone! As a current college student, sometimes I feel like my life is totally consumed by my classes and schoolwork. Nursing requires hours of studying from the textbook every night, and it can get really overwhelming. So I wanted to share with you some of my tips for successful studying and keeping the stress levels controlled. I think that these tips work not only for college kids, but for busy bloggers as well! Read on for more!

1. Use Your Resources.

Tutors aren’t just there to look pretty-they’re there to help you succeed! Same with your professors. Their job is to help you learn, so take advantage of that and go to office and tutoring hours to review any questions you might have and stay on top of your work.

2. Set aside a specific time to study each day.

It’s hard to make study time a priority in college with so many time demands from friends, clubs, and work. Make sure to set aside a specific time every day to study, so that you get into a routine and get used to doing it each day.

3. Put away distractions.

Turn that phone off and put it where you can’t see it. Out of sight, out of mind! If you don’t need it to study, put your computer away and just focus on the textbook or notes you took. Which brings us to number 4-

4. Take good notes.

Taking notes might seem time consuming and difficult while in class, but they’re so helpful to look back on and connect the material from the textbook to what your professor is saying. Studies have shown that if you don’t take notes, 60% of what you hear in class is forgotten after just 9 hours- yikes! Avoid this by reviewing and rewriting your notes after class to help you retain the information.

5. Eat Healthy Snacks.

Snacking is something all of us do, but when you’re stressed and studying it’s too easy to sit down with a new bag of chips and find it’s empty an hour later! Stock up on healthier snacks like blueberries, yogurt, and almonds that contain brain-boosting compounds (and taste delicious too).

6. Leave time for yourself.

Sure, studying is really important. And you’re in college to learn. But breaks are important too; they give your brain time to recharge and help you do better in the long run. Take a 15 minute break for every hour of studying, and you’ll find yourself much less stressed than trying to do all of it at once. Grab dinner with friends or binge-watch some Netflix (I recommend Once Upon A Time 😉 ). It won’t kill you or your GPA to take a break every once in a while!

I targeted this post towards college kids like me, but I think these tips can be applied to blog work as well! What do you think? What study strategies do you use? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Happy Tuesday! I hope your week started off right. Today I want to share with you what I’ve been loving this month! It’s been an insanely busy month so far, but I’ve still found time for a few fun things!

First up: my latest favorite book! The Rise and Fall of the Gallivanters by M. J. Beaufrand is set in the 80s in Portland, Oregon. It follows a punk band and its lead singer, Noah, through the ups and downs of life. It’s a gritty, emotional, and amazingly descriptive story that will make you cry and want to shave your hair into a mohawk! You can grab a copy here.

Next up is something that had been on my wishlist forever: the Instax Fujifilm mini polaroid camera! It’s so cute, and I haven’t had trouble making the photos turn out great so far! It’s definitely my favorite of my favorites this month 🙂 To see how it does, check out my Instagram! I’m always looking for new bloggers to follow 🙂 You can pick yourself up one of these by clicking here!

I’ve also been loving nude and light pink lip colors lately; as sassy and bold that perfect dark fall lip is, it takes a lot of effort in the morning! I love these colors because they still provide a fun look, but are much easier to just swipe on. My 3 favorites are Milani Color Statement in Dulce Carmelo, Wet n Wild MegaLast in Dark Pink Frost, and Trestique Matte Lip Crayon in Nantucket Nude. (See the Nantucket Nude Shade reviewed here!)

I love this marsala leather jacket for fall! Its burgundy tones complement my wardrobe perfectly, and it really puts me in a fall mood! It was a great budget purchase too, at just $28 from Forever21. You can see it featured in an OOTD here! It’s no longer available in this wine color, but you can pick it up in black or beige, and the best part is that it’s currently on sale for just $21! Grab one here.

May Favorites

June is finally here! The promise of regular sunshine is so close I can almost taste it…I can’t wait til it heats up enough for me to sit on a beach somewhere with a good book, my swimsuit, and a cold glass of lemonade in my hand! I’ve got summertime on the brain, and so it make sense that my favorites for May are on the sunny side.

I’m planning a few beach days for this summer, and good reads are an essential! I picked up this copy of Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions at a local bookstore’s sale the other day for just a dollar! Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors, and I’m looking forward to rereading this classic soon! You can find it here.

Victoria’s Secret was having one of their semi-annual sales the other day, and I grabbed this amazing longline lace bralette. It’s the perfect summer layering piece for under cutout tees and loose dresses! I can’t wait to show you it in a beach OOTD! You can find a similar one here.

What’s a beach day without a great bronzer? I’m new to using bronzers, and so I found this one at my local drugstore for just $4! I picked it up in the shade Ticket To Brazil, and I’ve found it to be an amazing product so far! It isn’t too shimmery and adds just the right amount of color to my skin. It is available in 2 other shades, and I highly recommend it if you’re a bronzer novice like me. Find it here!

I’ve written before about my love for Milani lipsticks, and I decided to test out some of Milani’s other products. I grabbed this eyeshadow in the shade Belle Champagne. It’s a lovely shimmery peachy color, although it is a little sheer, but for light everyday wear it’s perfect! I’ve had better results when applying it wet as far as pigmentation goes. Pick one up here.

I grabbed these cute little travel sized brushes on sale at the amazing TJ Maxx! I have yet to test them fully, but they seem lovely so far. They’re so soft on the skin, I can’t wait to test them!

4 Ways To Increase Your Productivity

As the end of this semester approaches and finals are looming, my stress levels are rocketing off the charts. With two projects, an essay, and an exam coming up, I feel like I’m working on something around the clock. When you’ve got so much to do, sometimes it seems easier to do nothing instead of tackling it all, but you’ve got to stay productive! Here’s 4 ways that I’ve come up with to decrease my stress levels and increase my productivity.

Unplug

SplitShire_5678

It’s easy to get caught up in social media online that distracts you from the tasks you’re trying to accomplish. Take an hour and do something technology-free. Take a walk, bake something, read a book-just do it without using your screens. You’ll feel so refreshed without getting tangled up in the day to day minutia of Facebook, Twitter, and email.

Tidy Up

work-station-straight-on-view

A place for everything and everything in its place can be applied directly to how frazzled you feel. Having a clean work area can make a big difference in how you feel about getting work done. Tidy your desk or bedroom, and you’ll see a big decrease in stress levels and a big increase in productivity! Getting things done seems so much more appealing with a great work space. I like to keep flowers on my desk to make me want to sit there more.

Treat Yo Self

When you finish a project or assignment, give yourself a reward! Little treats like cookies or candies tend to work well for me, but you can tailor this to whatever you like. Some like to reward themselves with $5 in shopping money whenever they finish a task. Find what works for you and use it to motivate yourself!

Get Outside

Getting outside for a breath of fresh air can do wonders for you. A walk, by yourself or with friends, maybe a jog or run, or even just taking your work outside can do wonders for your outlook. The air and gentle breezes make everything feel calming and relaxing, and a relaxed work environment can do so much for your productivity!

What do you think? What strategies work for you? Which way is your favorite? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

Today I’d like to share with you my favorites from this month! I picked up a lot of fun things this past month that I’ve been loving. I hope you enjoy them ! 🙂

Favorite Beauty Product(s):

march11.0

march9.0I grabbed this lipstick and this nail polish, both by Wet n Wild, at my local drugstore. I’ve been loving the bright, bold berry hue of the lipstick for spring! It’s so bright and fun, and I love the name too- Just Garnet. So fun! The nail polish is a more purple-y shade than the lipstick, and for such a cheap product (only !) it provides amazing coverage. I’ve been wearing two coats of it for 3 days and it hasn’t chipped yet, so it gets five stars from me! Wet n Wild is one of my favorite drugstore brands. It’s crazy cheap, but the quality is somehow still pretty good! Get the lipstick here.

Favorite Accessory:

march18.0 I talked about these in my last post, but I am just in LOVE with these sunglasses! They are just so versatile and so much fun to wear. I can’t wait to style the with a flowy kimono and some gladiator sandals to channel my inner bohemian this summer! You can find them on Amazon.

Favorite Snack:

I found these adorable pink Cadillac-shaped gummies at my local grocery. I’d never seen them before, and since I have a deep-seated love for all things vintage-inspired, I had to grab them! They’re so cute, and they’re strawberry flavoured! I’m basically in love with these haha. I can’t find them anywhere online, but check out your local grocery and you may get lucky!

Favorite Read:

I love Pablo Neruda’s poetry, so when I saw this pocket-size version of Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair for only $14, I had to grab it. It’s got such a lovely pattern on its cover too! Neruda is such a brilliant poet, I encourage you to check him out if you’ve never read any of his work, and especially if you like love poetry! You can find this book here.

march28.0

march29.0 I love to enjoy a nice cup of tea with a book, and I’ve been very into citrus teas lately. This herbal lemon tea is just lovely. I like my teas to have a stronger flavor, and Celestial Seasoning’s Zinger series packs a punch of great flavor in each teabag! It also makes my dorm room smell delicious 🙂

My amazing boyfriend gave me this Arctic Monkeys vinyl record for my birthday a week or so ago, and I can’t wait til I can get back home to my record player and test it out! It’s one of my favorite albums, and it was such a thoughtful gift! You can find it here.
