Poppies and Peter Pan Collars

Surprisingly, I’m enjoying some of the new updates to WordPress. The option to display photos in different ways is actually useful! What do you think of today’s all-circles layout? However, I’m not a huge fan of some of their other changes to their formats. More on that in a later post, though!

Anyway, today’s OOTD features one of my latest favorite items! I found this red dress at one of my local thrift stores for just $8, and it fits perfectly! It features a peter pan collar and an allover red, white, and grey poppy print. I can’t stop wearing it lately!

Back in middle school and the beginnings of high school I was obsessed with wearing just all black and concert tee shirts…*shudders*! If me at 18 had met me at 14, I’m sure I would have told me I needed a serious style makeover! However sometimes it’s hard to keep away from what used to be your default way of dressing…I saw this dress and thought that a grungy/indie vibe was just what it needed. I grabbed my trusty black Converse and some black knit knee socks, and of course a beanie, and voila! I had to grab a nice dark lipstick too of course. I kept the rest of my makeup neutral except for defining my eyebrows.

It can be super hard to avoid your style roots, but overall I really like how this turned out! What do you think? Do you ever revert to what you style used to be? What do you think of the changes to WordPress? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

Prairie Chic (with eShakti)

As you guys may have noticed, I hardly ever wear pants. Most of my wardrobe consists of dresses and skirts, so when eShakti reached out to me to collaborate and asked me to pick a piece out to review, of course it was going to be a dress. I picked out this floral navy number, and I’m in love with it!

I chose this dress because of the pretty print and the sheer sleeves, but online it looked shorter than it is. When it came I was surprised, but I actually think I like the longer length now that I’m used to it. My housemate said it looked “prairie chic”, like I’m from the Old West haha. eShakti gives you the option to customize your order in a lot of ways, including length, neckline, and even sleeve type, but I liked the dress as it was! It has a drawstring neck featuring a cutout, and it came with pockets, which is always a plus 🙂eshakti6eshakti7eshakti4eshakti9eshakti3eshakti10eshakti5

I added my tan booties and a silver cuff to add to the prairie/boho vibe I was feeling in this dress. This is definitely a dress I’m going to be wearing a lot this winter, the longer length and sleeves make it warm and comfy.

Overall I was very impressed with eShakti! I’m often wary of buying dresses online, but the size I ordered fit perfectly, and if you’re worried about fit, you can put in your measurements and customize the fit to your body! Like I mentioned before, you can also change the sleeves, neckline, length, and other aspects of the dress so you’re getting something uniquely yours! You can check out eShakti here, or on their Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram.

What do you think? Have you tried eShakti? How do you feel about buying clothes online? If you’d like to see more shots from this shoot, follow along on Instagram-I’m always looking for new bloggers to follow! Let me know what you think in the comments! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Making Waves

Happy Friday, everyone! I thought I’d show you one of my favorite slightly more formal outfits in today’s OOTD. Today was such a beautiful sunny day that I just had to pull out one of my favorite vintage-inspired ModCloth dresses.

This lovely floral tea dress is my favorite to wear to slightly dressier occasions, like family dinners and the like. I adore the vintage cut with its longer skirt and deep V back. It’s a perfect color combination of navy and white with an adorable floral print. I grabbed it from ModCloth on sale for just $24.99, and I’m so pleased with it! It works for so many occasions, and I instantly fall in love with anything vintage-inspired and floral to boot!

I just had so much fun taking these pictures! Sometimes it’s nice to shake up your blogging routine. Every outfit and every day is different and unique, so I feel that each photoshoot should reflect that! It was also such a hot day, it felt lovely to cool my bare feet in the lake 🙂

I added my favorite floppy maroon hat and lipstick, as well as my great maroon Mary Jane heels. I just love these shoes-just the right combination of vintage and modern! Plus they were on sale for just $14 when I got them-can’t beat that price, and the quality is great! They’ve lasted a year or more now, and I’m still head over heels for them haha. Maroon and navy is such a great combo, I felt the accessories and dress really complemented each other. What do you think?

April Showers

Spring has sprung, but it’s still a bit too wet and muddy out for my liking. Here in Oneonta it drizzled all day but finally cleared up in the afternoon, just in time for me to shoot this outfit! I wanted an excuse to show off my favorite red rain boots! 🙂 We found this adorable little stone bridge just off a walking trail through the woods-doesn’t it just look like something out of a fairytale?

When you live in the Northeast, a good pair of waterproof boots is a necessity. Some opt for more fashion-forward versions, but I’ve always love the classic red rubber rain boot! I wore them today with my comfy black and white polka-dot dress and my vintage denim jacket. Polka-dots, red, and denim all add classic elements to the look. I grabbed my red lipstick that perfectly matched the boots too!bridge7

I put my hair up in one of my favorite ways-as two crown braids! It’s such an easy hairstyle, and can be dressed up or down so easily! This is one of my go-to hairstyles in the mornings when I’m running late, because it only takes a couple minutes and looks like I made much more of an effort than if I simply rock the ponytail or bun to that 8 am class!

Since I was rocking the bold lip, I only swiped on a little mascara. I don’t usually wear a full face of makeup on a day-to day basis, just some lip color, mascara, and a little blush usually 🙂bridge4 bridge2

Mint To Be

Yesterday was such a lovely day out! It’s finally beginning to consistently be warm out here in New York, which has gotten me wearing my favorite dresses again! This dress was a Christmas gift from my cousin this year, and I love it! It’s made of a lovely flowy chiffon, with such cute cutouts on the sides and back. It’s a pretty mint color with silver polka dots all over, and I just can’t get over how different and fun it is! horses3

I slipped on my berry-colored Mary Jane heels and grabbed my matching berry lipstick! I kept my jewelry simple with just a couple silver rings, and I grabbed a vintage jean jacket to make my outfit a little more casual. This dress is so versatile-I can dress it up with heels or down with sandals! I love the airy feel that the cutouts provide.horses4

Here Comes the Sun!

This week I traveled home to Vermont for spring break! Even though spring technically started on Friday, it still sadly feels like winter here-it only made it up to 15 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday! Thankfully though, today it made it into the forties, so it was just warm enough for me to snap these pictures.

This is one of my favorite outfits! I grabbed a floral dress and my trusty denim vest, both of which I picked up at thrift stores. Florals and denim are one of my favorite combinations! I love outfits that combine feminine and grungy elements. I pulled on my white thigh-high socks because although I wish I could go barelegged, I can’t quite muster up the courage yet! I of course pulled on those same brown oxfords-what can I say? I have an addiction! The lighting outside was just lovely, and these shots turned out really well. I finished off the look with a bright purple lipstick. You’ll get a closer look at that in my upcoming post, but it’s a Wet n Wild one that’s amazingly vibrant!garage4

In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb

The other day I did a lovely photoshoot with a friend of mine who’s majoring in photography. It was really nice to be able to move around naturally and get a ton of shots in without having to readjust or focus a camera on a tripod! He did a great job, and now i get to share those photos with you, which is the best part! It was a pretty windy day on campus, so we shot somewhere slightly out of the wind-on the balcony of the library. You can see the valley behind me in a shot or two!

I threw on a dress that I just love to wear because it’s so flowy and feminine, with its white crochet lace overlay and high-waisted cut. I grabbed my favorite burgundy leather moto jacket to keep warm, because although spring claims to have arrived, there is sadly still a definite chill in the air. I combated it with the jacket and some warm black tights! Of course, my black heeled oxfords always make an appearance too 🙂 I have a weakness for oxford shoes! The classic cut of the dress and the  style of shoe kept me feeling vintage, but the moto jacket added just the right splash of modern!

yager5

yager6

Since most of my look was black and white, I loved the pop of color provided by the jacket. I kept my jewelry simple with white rose and pearl studs, and threw my hair up in a topknot in an effort to combat the effects of the wind. No fancy makeup for me today, just powder, mascara, and eyebrow pencil.

Plum Tights and Spring Breezes

Spring has almost arrived!  After a long, loooong winter here in upstate New York, it’s a huge relief to be able to go outside without a million layers on. I took advantage of the above-forty degree temperature to wear one of my favorite dresses, a blue and white one I found on Modcloth. Its fifties-inspired classic silhouette and pretty pattern makes it a favorite year-round, but I especially enjoy it for spring because its light blue color and white patterns remind me of clouds in a summer sky!

plum 5

I added a fuzzy white cardigan and some plum-colored tights to keep me warm. I love the way the blue and purple look together, and tights are still a must where I live to keep from freezing!

plum 6plum 2

I wore my brown oxfords, which complement the colors in my outfit nicely and play into the slightly vintage vibe the dress gives off. I love a good pair of oxford shoes! As much as I love wearing them with a dress and tights, I can’t wait til it warms up and I can wear them with shorts and skirts minus the tights.
