Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush Review

Today I’m excited to review an interesting product I’ve been loving lately: this Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Plum Wine. I purchased it last week while on a weird Amazon binge (do you guys get those too? Only me? Gotcha.) and I ended up with this in my cart for cheaper than I could get it at the drugstore, so of course I got it. Thanks to Amazon Prime’s enabling of me, it was here two days later!

The leaves are truly gorgeous right now, so of course I had to “artistically” put it in some of them for pictures. I couldn’t help myself!

I chose the shade Plum Wine, I’m really loving plum and maroon shades of everything right now! The quality of this blush is really amazing. The packaging claims that it applies like a powder but sinks in like a cream, while being a gel. I actually have to agree with the application! It sinks right into your cheeks, staying like a tint all day. I usually apply it with a beauty blender and blend it in.

It should be said, the packaging of this product is not exactly aesthetically pleasing. The top is fine, but the pan is just cheap looking plastic. I was a bit disappointed in Maybelline, but they’re still one of my favorite drugstore lines! I’m still looking to collect the rest of these shades. I just wish they were prettier, like my favorite metallic Milani packaging. Overall, 4.5/5.

I tried to get a picture of what it looked like on, but the wind was not cooperating with my hair! Oh well, I did try. The color in the pan is very rich and dark, and that stays true with the transfer to skin- a very little bit of this goes a long way. You can pick it up at the Maybelline site, or head on over to Amazon for the cheaper one 😉

What do you think? Have you tried this blush series? What do you think of Maybelline? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

My Fall Drugstore Makeup Picks

As fall quickly approaches, I think it’s time to begin switching over my makeup collection! Just like you change wardrobes as the seasons change, I change the contents of my makeup bag. However, I’m a broke college student who doesn’t have much spare cash to spend on makeup sadly. So here are my top makeup choices for fall that don’t break the bank-in fact, all of these are less than $4 each!

I told you in my August Favorites post how much I’ve been loving baked eyeshadows lately! This one from Jordana Cosmetics in Bronze Gala is such a gorgeously bold metallic, and fall is all about those metallics! I use this wet for a bold look, but you can also use it dry for something softer. Bronze Gala Eyeshadow, $2.49

This blush is also from Jordana, and I picked it up in the shade Redwood. I think darker blushes are the way to go for fall, because they give you that chilly air flush. This product is satiny with just a little shimmer. Find it here for $2.99! It comes in a few dozen other colors as well.

A red statement lip is classic fall makeup, of course. I’ve been loving chunky lip pencils lately, and this LA Colors one is a great way to rock that fall lip! It’s somewhat sheer, but can be layered to give the appearance of a stain.

And of course, since fall weather is so drying on the lips and skin, I always have a few of these Baby Lips chapsticks lying around! You can get them in tinted, sheer, and SPF 15 varieties for just $3.99 each from Maybelline! This is one of my favorite brands, I’ve got a couple in every purse! Find them here.

Splurge, Spend, or Save: Bronzers

Today I’m excited to introduce the first installment in a new post series that I’m titling Splurge, Spend, or Save! Each time I’ll pick a type of product and find a higher-end, mid-range, and low-price version of that product, and review all three to see which type is most worth purchasing! This time, the focus is on bronzers.

Today we have three bronzers: the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer, the Milani Baked Bronzer, and the Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer. These are the Splurge, Spend, and Save, respectively. I reviewed the Tarte bronzer and the Wet N Wild bronzer previously here and here.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in the shade Park Avenue Princess. This product retails for $30.00 for 0.32 oz. It is more matte than the other two products, but still has shimmer to it. I find this one to look most natural on my skin, although if you’re not thorough with blending, you’ll get some pretty harsh lines. Great product for a subtle glow.

Milani Baked Bronzer in shade 06 Golden. Described as a deep bronze tan with gold shimmer, this product retails for $9.99. It comes with a compact mirror section underneath that also holds this brush. This product is vegan, and can be used dry for a more sheer look or wet for an intense one. I usually wear this daily! The gold shimmer is subtle enough that this is really very wearable. And you can’t beat the pretty gold packaging.

Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer in the shade Ticket To Brazil. You can find this at Walgreens for just $2.99. This product is much more sheer than the others, and has a slight shimmer. This is a great product to play around with if you’re testing out bronzer for the first time, but it has very little staying power and doesn’t last more than a few hours at the most.

From right to left: Milani, Wet N Wild, Tarte

I find that the Milani baked bronzer is really a great everyday product, and for just $10, you really can’t go wrong. I love that it’s vegan as well, which I think is really important in makeup. I use it to contour as well as to just add a healthy glow, and it lasts the whole day! If you’re looking to splurge on a product, though, the Tarte version is really quite good as well.

What do you think? Have you tried any of these bronzers? Do you have a favorite that’s not on the list? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

May Favorites

June is finally here! The promise of regular sunshine is so close I can almost taste it…I can’t wait til it heats up enough for me to sit on a beach somewhere with a good book, my swimsuit, and a cold glass of lemonade in my hand! I’ve got summertime on the brain, and so it make sense that my favorites for May are on the sunny side.

I’m planning a few beach days for this summer, and good reads are an essential! I picked up this copy of Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions at a local bookstore’s sale the other day for just a dollar! Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors, and I’m looking forward to rereading this classic soon! You can find it here.

Victoria’s Secret was having one of their semi-annual sales the other day, and I grabbed this amazing longline lace bralette. It’s the perfect summer layering piece for under cutout tees and loose dresses! I can’t wait to show you it in a beach OOTD! You can find a similar one here.

What’s a beach day without a great bronzer? I’m new to using bronzers, and so I found this one at my local drugstore for just $4! I picked it up in the shade Ticket To Brazil, and I’ve found it to be an amazing product so far! It isn’t too shimmery and adds just the right amount of color to my skin. It is available in 2 other shades, and I highly recommend it if you’re a bronzer novice like me. Find it here!

I’ve written before about my love for Milani lipsticks, and I decided to test out some of Milani’s other products. I grabbed this eyeshadow in the shade Belle Champagne. It’s a lovely shimmery peachy color, although it is a little sheer, but for light everyday wear it’s perfect! I’ve had better results when applying it wet as far as pigmentation goes. Pick one up here.

I grabbed these cute little travel sized brushes on sale at the amazing TJ Maxx! I have yet to test them fully, but they seem lovely so far. They’re so soft on the skin, I can’t wait to test them!

Eyeshadow Steals- $2

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’m finally home and unpacked from my first year at college, and it’s so nice to be home 🙂 It feels great to have so much more space to myself. I’ve been doing lots of drugstore bargain hunting for new makeup products, and here’s a couple of my latest favorites!

I found these lovely little eyeshadows at a clearance sale at my local Walgreens for just fifty cents each, along with this cute little brush for just $1! You’re probably sick of hearing me gush about Wet N Wild by now, but it really is such a great brand, with surprisingly high quality products for incredibly low prices! I picked up the shades Panther and Creme Brulee.

These cute little powders are perfect! They’re well pigmented and matte, and the Creme Brulee shade works great for an everyday color, while Panther is a great shade to combine with other colors to create a evening out look. It’s a lovely smokey shade that’s easy to blend.

The brush is perfect for eyeshadows and highlighting, and I haven’t had any trouble with the bristles falling out yet (fingers crossed!). It spreads the colors very evenly as well.

What do you think? Have you found any drugstore steals lately? Do you prefer high-end shadows, or do you like to find bargain prices? How would you wear these shades? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

3 Lipsticks for $3

I was at the drugstore the other day looking for some fun new lip colors to play around with, and I discovered Wet N Wild’s new line of $1 lipsticks! I knew I was going to be getting some right there, but I couldn’t decide on the colors! So I closed my eyes and asked my friend to grab me a couple colors that I wouldn’t usually wear! Here’s her picks!

First up we have the shade Dark Wine. This is a color that I would wear any day, plums are my favorites to wear! (Check out my post of my favorite purple lip colors here!) But as for the other two, I was a little hesitant…they are an orangey-coral shade titled What’s Up Doc and a dark, purple-black color called Vamp It Up. I tend to veer away from corals in fear of looking washed out, and I wouldn’t wear black lipstick usually unless it was Halloween! However, I tried to keep an open mind as I tried them on.

I was expecting great things of this line, and I was not disappointed! The colors are a little sheer, but they’re easy to build up, apply like a dream, and don’t dry your lips out! This beautiful deep maroon wine shade is one that I see myself wearing day-to-day as well as for a night out.

I was wary of this coral/orange shade because I wasn’t sure how well it would suit my skin tone, but it actually wasn’t too bad! The bright color is perfect for summer, and actually matches my swimsuit really well 🙂 It did require a few coats to get the even color I wanted, but for just $1 I really can’t complain!

This last one was the most unusual for me, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. The lipstick only required one coat, but I’m not sure when I would wear this shade! Any ideas?

St Ives Apricot Scrub Review

This is just the first in a new series I’ll be doing reviewing products that are cult favorites. I saw this travel size version of the St. Ives Apricot Face Scrub and knew I had to test it out! Buying travel size versions of products is a great way to test out things you’re unsure about purchasing-that way if you don’t like it, you’re paying only a fraction of the real price. I grabbed this travel size at CVS. You can get the travel size here and the full size here!

This is a cult favorite for a reason! I had my doubts at first, due to hearing some mixed reviews of it, but it’s amazing. After one application, my skin both looks and feels softer and smoother. It removed dry skin, evened out my skin tone, and (warning: icky) even got rid of some tiny blackheads. The formula is abrasive so this is definitely not something you should use every day. The tube recommends three to four times a week, but that sounds really excessive to me; any exfoliator is going to be a little hard on your skin, and frequent usage is generally not recommended. Since I have fairly sensitive skin, I’ll probably only be using it once every couple weeks. If you’re still not quite convinced about this product, consider grabbing the smaller size next time you’re in the drugstore! At only $1.49, it really can’t be beat.

What do you think? Have you tried this product before? What’s your opinion on exfoliation? Let me know what you think! Thanks for stopping by!

May Drugstore Makeup Haul

As many of you may know, I am a huge fan of drugstore makeup lines. I tend to be very frugal with my money, and I love finding cheap products that work great! So here’s what I picked up at my local CVS this week for under $20!

First up is a pressed blush by Milani. In my April Favorites post, I talked about the Wet N Wild one I was previously using, but it was just a bit too glittery for everyday use. This one is perfect! It’s completely matte and not too pigmented, just the right amount to wear to class everyday. And that packaging? Just gorgeous! I picked it up in Romantic Rose, but there are a whole range of amazing shades!

I picked up this mini Wet N Wild eyeshadow palette in Walking On Eggshells, because I was looking for colors I could wear by themselves on an everyday basis. It comes with 3 different shades, and they’re all lovely together or just by themselves. These shadows have a great satin finish, not too glittery but not matte either. They came with two little brushes, but I prefer to use clean fingers to apply them. They last all day and stay put!

Another quick and easy eyeshadow for busy mornings is this Wet N Wild IdolEyes shadow stick. I’ve been seeing these and wanting to try them out, and I was not disappointed! They’re so easy to apply and blend, and the colors are perfect! I picked it up in a light golden shade. The quality is not the best, but that’s what happens sometimes when you’re spending so little. I am very happy with it though! The tip is fine enough that you can use it as a liner if you want.

This eyebrow product is one I’ve been wanting to test out. It has a pencil on one end and a spoolie brush on the other. I picked it up in the shade Brunettes Do It Better, and it matches my eyebrow perfectly! The pencil goes on very smoothly, and the brush works just as it’s supposed to. I am in love with this product! It’s quick, easy, and looks great.

I have a weakness for this line of Milani lipsticks, and I’ve added this one to my slowly growing collection. It’s so gorgeous! These lipsticks are smooth to apply, long-lasting, satin finished, and smell like watermelon! What’s not to love?

I grabbed the shade Cabaret Blend, and it adds a gorgeous maroon or wine color to my lips. It pairs perfectly with navy dresses! My goal is to get all the colors eventually! 🙂

Some of these were difficult to swatch due to their sheerness, but I did my best! I highly recommend all of these products, and you really cannot beat the prices! What’s some of your favorite drugstore makeup finds? Which one of these products is your favorite? Let me know what you think in the comments! Have a lovely day, and thanks for stopping by! 🙂

April Favorites

Another month has almost gone by, and I’d like to share with you a few of the lovely things I’ve been enjoying! Read on for my favorite products, accessories, and other fun things from this month! You can check out last month’s favorites here.

Favorite Hair Product:

I just started using this OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner in the beginning of April, and I’ve already been seeing amazing results in my hair! I chose this shampoo based on the great reviews I’d heard about it, and it paid off. I have hair that can get very dry, and these two products do wonders for it! They make my hair smooth, shiny, bouncy, and hydrated without leaving it feeling greasy or heavy. They’re amazing for someone with dry hair like me!april2Favorite Accessory:

I’ve been loving this Olivia+Joy clutch that I received as a birthday gift! It’s amazingly versatile for both day and night. I love the soft leather of it and the gold hardware, it’s very well made with tons of pockets inside for checkbooks, coupons, and more! It even comes with a detachable pouch inside that can be used as a wallet for credit cards and IDs if you like! Similar here.april6april7april8april9Favorite DIY:

My friend made me this lovely mug featuring my home state of Vermont! She has a matching one with the state of New York, where I live now, on it. If you put them next to each other, the dotted lines match up 🙂 I think it’s such a cute idea for a DIY for friends or family living in different states! I’ll make sure to put up a DIY on how to do this yourself soon! It’s quite easy.april3 Favorite Face Product:

A couple weeks ago, my trusty ELF blusher finally ran out, and I was forced to look for an alternative. So I picked up this Wet N Wild blush in Pearlescent Pink. It’s really a bit too shimmery for my taste, but it does the job for now! It adds a lovely swipe of color to my cheekbones in the morning. I use it sparingly though, because it is rather pigmented and has a bit of shimmer. It’s a great blush for the price of only $2.19 though!april4april5 Favorite Lip Product:

A friend sent me these adorable kitty lip glosses the other day, and they’re so cute I just had to include them! The cats’ heads unscrew, revealing a pot of lip gloss. The vanilla scent is lovely, and they add a sheer, slightly tinted shine to your lips. They’re a perfect everyday gloss, and so cute! 🙂

Shades of Orchid-My April Lip Picks

This spring, I’ve been loving purpley-pink lip colors. Mauve, plum, periwinkle, magenta, mulberry-they’re so lovely and such great colors to spruce up that perfect spring outfit 🙂 Today I want to share with you my four favorite lip products in these colors.

lipcomp2From left to right: Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Uptown Mauve, Wet N Wild lipstick in Just Garnet, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fuschia Fusion, and Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Color Gloss in Dashing Orchid.

lipcomp1    1. Dashing OrchidGloss in Dashing Orchid First up is the Maybelline gloss! I put on these lip products for this post in order of what was easiest to remove haha. This is a fairly thick gloss that’s extremely pigmented and shiny. It goes on really easily and also smells divine! This is the most purple in color of the four products-I would describe it as a deep lavender. It lasts fairly well for being a gloss and stays on for about 2-3 hours if you don’t eat or drink. This is a great choice if you don’t like taking the time out to apply a lipstick, but still like having color on your lips. They come in a whole range of colors too!lipcomp4     2. Fuschia Fusionlipcomp5 Next up-Fuschia Fusion by Revlon! This is a creamy lipstick that goes on as a bright magenta color. It’s really a true fuschia, and goes on as quite pink for me. It has great staying power, lasting about 5 hours without reapplying. I got it as a gift, and it’s brighter than something I would normally wear on a day-to-day basis, but it’s great for a night out or to change things up once in a while!lipcomp6

3. Uptown Mauve
lipcomp7 The Milani lipstick is one that I’ve been enjoying for a while now. This is my go-to, everyday lipstick when I’m running out the door late for an 8 am class. It’s subtle enough to wear everyday, but pigmented enough to really add to your look. I love this lipstick so much! It also has that signature watermelon scent that comes with Milani products, which I think is so yummy. When I wear it, I only reapply it after eating or drinking and it lasts all day!lipcomp8     4. Just Garnet

lipcomp10I talked about this Wet N Wild lipstick in my March Favorites post-check it out here for a more in depth description! I’ll just say again how fun this color is for spring! It’s highly pigmented and goes on very smoothly. I sometimes experience some tugging when putting on the Milani, but I never get that with this one! I encourage you to check out Wet N Wild’s lipstick in your local drugstore if you haven’t already
