Maroon and Black OOTD

Hey everyone! We finally got some snow here in New York! I’m the type of person that wears dresses all year round; the weather doesn’t matter, I’m always cold anyway haha. Plus, I personally feel that there’s no combination more comfortable than a dress and knee socks. (I think I own about five or six different pairs of knee socks right now…)

The camera problems I’d been having in the past are mostly fixed by the addition of good natural light! I’m pretty happy with how these turned out! Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to afford a new camera…probably not while I’m still a student though haha. Anyway, for this outfit I took my favorite maroon dress, added a matching clutch, and grabbed my trusty black knee socks (see them styled differently here!). Maroon and black has always been one of my very favorite color combinations. Scroll down for more!

It was super windy outside when I took these, as you can probably tell by my hair haha! It’s so annoying when you get your hair to look halfway okay, but then you go outside and the wind whips it to death. Oh well!

Hopeless Romantic

There is usually no such thing as a perfect photoshoot.

Either I have camera issues, or the light is weird, or it’s last minute and I don’t create the vision I intended. I originally planned on a completely different outfit for this post, something classy and vintage inspired. But the shots were coming out weird, and I just wasn’t feeling the look. So I scrapped that last minute and threw on something I felt comfortable in.

It turned out silly and weird and awesome, and I’m super happy with this set of photos. I think they really captured me haha, and I had so much fun taking them. I had to sort through a lot of bloopers to find these ones, but I’m super pleased with it! Hope you enjoy this OOTD 🙂

A fun story about the tee I’m wearing here: I actually bought it in the children’s section of Old Navy while helping a friend look for a gift for her niece. It’s a child’s large, I think kids’ clothes today must run a lot bigger than they used to! Anyway, I just kinda liked the graphic on it, and it only cost $1.99 haha. I threw a bunch of layers on and called it a day.

Overall this look may be silly or childish or messy; it’s certainly not high fashion! I love its odd layers and untied Converse and messy ponytails though, I feel that it really captures who I am: a silly, hopeless romantic who’s far from perfect. And I think that’s what fashion is supposed to do: capture who we are.

Dress: Forever21, Tee: Old Navy (no longer available), Shoes: Converse, Vest: Thrifted, Sunnies: Forever21

(I’m also wearing NYX Soft Matter Lip Cream in Monte Carlo– stay tuned for a review soon!)

What do you think? How does the way you dress reflect who you are? Ever buy any kids’ clothes? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Back In Black

I’m on a bit of a rock and roll kick this summer so far- I channeled some edgy rocker vibes in this OOTD with my maroon leather jacket and round sunnies.

I’m in love with this black maxi dress, my latest purchase from the amazing TJ Maxx! I tied it up to keep it off the ground, and also to add a bit of an edge to the silhouette. The soft jersey fabric is so versatile, and I’m loving wearing it in so many different ways this summer so far! I grabbed a silver necklace to add a little flair, but overall I tried to keep everything pretty minimal to let the details take center stage.

I added my ever-present Milani lipstick in Caberet Blend- it’s a great maroony-red shade that perfectly matches the jacket! I left the rest of my makeup neutral so as not to offset the bold lip.

I’m in love with these suede booties-they’re the perfect 70’s low boot! I have very similar ones in a different shade as well, and I wear them constantly! Booties are my vice 🙂

I couldn’t resist adding this last picture-I had way too much fun with this photoshoot 🙂 I think it captures the edginess I was going for rather well haha! I love wearing this maxi dress like this, and I have so many other ideas for it too! A black maxi dress is really the perfect staple for any closet in any season! It can be easily transformed no matter what your aesthetic is.

What do you think? How do you style a black maxi dress? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!
