Maroon and Black OOTD

Hey everyone! We finally got some snow here in New York! I’m the type of person that wears dresses all year round; the weather doesn’t matter, I’m always cold anyway haha. Plus, I personally feel that there’s no combination more comfortable than a dress and knee socks. (I think I own about five or six different pairs of knee socks right now…)

The camera problems I’d been having in the past are mostly fixed by the addition of good natural light! I’m pretty happy with how these turned out! Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to afford a new camera…probably not while I’m still a student though haha. Anyway, for this outfit I took my favorite maroon dress, added a matching clutch, and grabbed my trusty black knee socks (see them styled differently here!). Maroon and black has always been one of my very favorite color combinations. Scroll down for more!

It was super windy outside when I took these, as you can probably tell by my hair haha! It’s so annoying when you get your hair to look halfway okay, but then you go outside and the wind whips it to death. Oh well!

Hopeless Romantic

There is usually no such thing as a perfect photoshoot.

Either I have camera issues, or the light is weird, or it’s last minute and I don’t create the vision I intended. I originally planned on a completely different outfit for this post, something classy and vintage inspired. But the shots were coming out weird, and I just wasn’t feeling the look. So I scrapped that last minute and threw on something I felt comfortable in.

It turned out silly and weird and awesome, and I’m super happy with this set of photos. I think they really captured me haha, and I had so much fun taking them. I had to sort through a lot of bloopers to find these ones, but I’m super pleased with it! Hope you enjoy this OOTD 🙂

A fun story about the tee I’m wearing here: I actually bought it in the children’s section of Old Navy while helping a friend look for a gift for her niece. It’s a child’s large, I think kids’ clothes today must run a lot bigger than they used to! Anyway, I just kinda liked the graphic on it, and it only cost $1.99 haha. I threw a bunch of layers on and called it a day.

Overall this look may be silly or childish or messy; it’s certainly not high fashion! I love its odd layers and untied Converse and messy ponytails though, I feel that it really captures who I am: a silly, hopeless romantic who’s far from perfect. And I think that’s what fashion is supposed to do: capture who we are.

(I’m also wearing NYX Soft Matter Lip Cream in Monte Carlo– stay tuned for a review soon!)

What do you think? How does the way you dress reflect who you are? Ever buy any kids’ clothes? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Like The Cool Kids

I loved playing dress-up as a kid, and I still do today! I love to put an outfit on that helps you become someone who would wear that outfit- in other words, I think how we dress can shape how we act. Today I dressed up as a different version of me 🙂

If someone was to ask me to pick on outfit to wear for the rest of my life, it would probably be a black romper. I think rompers are the most versatile pieces! You can wear them by themselves, layer them with tights and a cardigan like I did, and even dress them up with heels and a statement necklace! I love this particular romper, with its sweetheart neckline, cute pattern, and pockets (!!!). Combined with a beanie and boots, it makes me feel like I’m playing dress up as an edgier version of myself.

Romper, Cardigan, Boots, Beanie, Septum Ring

I’ve always loved adding fun details to my outfits, so when I found this septum ring (fake, don’t worry!) in a shop the other day, I thought it would add an edgy touch. The only danger is, I like it so much I kind of think I need one now! What do you think? I really like the cool-girl,  edgy, street-style vibe it brings, but I think my dad would probably kill me haha! Is it worth the tradeoff? You tell me!

Adding details like the nose ring and the beanie to this outfit definitely helped me channel my inner cool-girl (well, maybe she’s in there somewhere, buried deep down!) What do you put on to dress up as a different version of you? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Mustard x Navy

Before you ask- yes I am aware that it is December, and yes I know that I live in the state of New York haha. However, I do think that since it hasn’t snowed yet, crop tops are still appropriate attire! Maybe that’s my inner New Englander showing though haha. Us Vermonters wear shorts in 40 degree weather and trudge through feet of snow without blinking an eye! (Okay, we’ll probably complain about it a bit.) Can you tell I’m a bit homesick haha? I can’t wait for finals to be over so I can go home and see my family and friends.

Anyway, today’s OOTD features a pair of pants I discussed in my November Favorites post! This comfy pair of printed cotton pants from Forever 21 are my favorite pair lately! They’re high-waisted and they have pockets! I paired them with a black racerback ribbed crop top that I knotted. (See it styled with a skirt here!) I topped off the look with a beanie. (that I definitely did NOT steal from my boyfriend…hehe)

As I continue to blog, I find myself coming up with ideas on how to improve my photography! I still have just a little point-and-shoot camera, but I’m saving up for a nicer one 🙂 I really like how these photos came out! I found a shipping crate on campus to use as my backdrop, and I love how the mustard and navy shades balance each other. I’ve been following lots of photography blogs on Pinterest lately, so hopefully some of their tips will end up paying off! 🙂

In other news, I’m realizing by looking at these pictures how awfully pasty and white I am! (Any good self tanners? 😉 )The sun practically reflects off me haha.

These pants are so crazy comfy and I think they’re so great for this holiday season, when all we want to do is be comfy and eat food 😉 What do you guys think? Any photography tips? How would you style these pants? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Poppies and Peter Pan Collars

Surprisingly, I’m enjoying some of the new updates to WordPress. The option to display photos in different ways is actually useful! What do you think of today’s all-circles layout? However, I’m not a huge fan of some of their other changes to their formats. More on that in a later post, though!

Anyway, today’s OOTD features one of my latest favorite items! I found this red dress at one of my local thrift stores for just $8, and it fits perfectly! It features a peter pan collar and an allover red, white, and grey poppy print. I can’t stop wearing it lately!

Back in middle school and the beginnings of high school I was obsessed with wearing just all black and concert tee shirts…*shudders*! If me at 18 had met me at 14, I’m sure I would have told me I needed a serious style makeover! However sometimes it’s hard to keep away from what used to be your default way of dressing…I saw this dress and thought that a grungy/indie vibe was just what it needed. I grabbed my trusty black Converse and some black knit knee socks, and of course a beanie, and voila! I had to grab a nice dark lipstick too of course. I kept the rest of my makeup neutral except for defining my eyebrows.

Dress: Thrifted, Knee Socks: Payless, Sneakers: Converse, Beanie: Forever21, Lipstick: Milani in Cabaret Blend.

It can be super hard to avoid your style roots, but overall I really like how this turned out! What do you think? Do you ever revert to what you style used to be? What do you think of the changes to WordPress? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

Earthy Grunge

Happy Wednesday! It may be November, but here in upstate New York we’re having a heat wave! It’s been in the seventies for the past couple days, and while I’m loving it, I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop, because I’m sure we’ll be back to 40 degrees out before you know it! I’m enjoying not having to wear heavy coats for now.

tank2

Today I’m wearing a comfy tank courtesy of StyleArt, a company that sells items with prints by independent designers on them! They give 20% of the proceeds to the designers as well as offering them the opportunity to promote themselves. I chose this fun toucan-print tank in black. The material is great, and the print doesn’t get gross or flake off after one wash like a lot of graphic tops do in my experience. It does run really big, however. I got a small and it’s definitely quite oversized on me as you can see. Overall I’m very happy with it!

tank4

tank1

I styled the tank with a pair of black leggings, black booties, and my trusty denim jacket. Since the shirt is so low cut on me, I added my favorite lace bralette to just peek out around the neckline a little bit.
tank3

I added dreamcatcher earrings and some leather bracelets to finish off the look, as well as a dark red manicure and a brighter red lip.

tank6

This kind of multi-faceted casual look is my favorite to wear. The bralette and leggings make it so comfy, the denim, black, and red nails add edgy vibes, while the leather bracelets bring it back down to earth. Combining multiple styles is one of my favorite things to do!

Ramblings and Retro Vibes

babydoll2

Hey guys, happy Friday! Here’s to the weekend! It’s been a crazy busy couple of weeks now that I’m back at school, and it’s only going to get worse I think! I’m starting nursing clinicals, have a full course load, have a work study job, am a member of an insane ELEVEN school clubs, and am somehow still running this blog and making time for friends. I’m stressed, but I don’t really mind; I think I thrive on being busy. Not to say I don’t love vacation time, but keeping to a schedule really makes me feel productive somehow. But let’s talk about this outfit!

Today’s outfit of the day features some of my favorite fall staples: dresses, fringe, booties, and knee-high socks! I picked up this open-back babydoll dress from Forever21 the other week and I love it so much! It’s such an easy piece to throw on on a busy morning. I added all-black accessories like this scarf, these knee socks, and booties in order to not overwhelm the outfit, and topped it off with my favorite statement necklace and a swipe of bold lipstick.

 babydoll1

I feel very 70’s retro-chic in this outfit, I think mostly due to the fringe, the suede booties and the layers. Those things are perfect for fall too though, and I’ve never been one to hold back from a retro look!

I’ve also discovered I really need a new camera; my little digital one is just not cutting it anymore. I’ve decided I have to save up and get myself something really nice for my travel, hiking, and blog photos. The problem is, I don’t know what to get! What type of camera do you guys use? Any recommendations?

Do you thrive on schedules too or do you do better with a more laid-back pace? What are your favorite fall staples? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

OH-FEST 2015

I’m a huge fan of music festivals, and I love everything about them-the bands, the huge outdoor spaces, the food trucks and vendors, the noise, the crowds, and of course, the fashion! This past weekend, I went to a music festival, and had such an amazing time! Check out my Instagram and Twitter for more pictures and videos from the concert!

Every year, my college and another college in the town put on a music festival called OH-FEST, and this year the headliner was Panic! At The Disco! I was so excited to see them, they’re one of my favorite bands 🙂 The big concert started at 6, and there were two opening acts before Panic finally came on. The crowds were insane! I tried to take pictures, but there were so many people pushing and shoving that I was afraid of dropping my camera! I did manage to get some pictures of the band in though. Their set was simply amazing-at one point during one of the songs, the lead singer did a backflip off part of the stage-the crowd went wild! I wish I’d been able to capture that on video haha. They played songs from all their albums, and even played their new single Hallelujah-if you haven’t heard it yet, check it out here!

I volunteered through my college to help set up, and so I got to be backstage beforehand and hear the band’s soundcheck! I even got a free t-shirt! 🙂

My friends and I decided to channel a theme together with our outfits, so we all went for the 90’s grunge look. I took some pictures of my outfit before the concert started!

I grabbed my trusty ripped jeans and a loose white tank, then added my favorite black converse and an oversized flannel shirt. I sprayed my favorite Not Your Mother’s salt spray in to give me those festival waves, and added my trusty sunnies! I kept my jewelry to a minimum-with so many people packed together, I didn’t want to risk getting caught on anyone! I kept my ID, cash, and other essentials in my sturdy camera bag.

The crowds were insane, you literally could not move there were so many people packed together! I had an amazing time seeing one of my very favorite bands though, and it was free! What more could you ask for in a music festival?

Do you like music festivals and concerts, or are loud noises and crowds not really your thing? What do you think about Panic! At The Disco? What would you wear to a concert like this? Let me know what you think in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
