3 Halloween Costumes You Already Have In Your Closet

I don’t know about you guys, but Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! I love dressing up, I love candy, I love trick-or-treating! Everything about Halloween is my favorite, and since it’s just around the corner, I thought I’d share some of my costume ideas! The best thing about this list is that all of these outfits can be put together without buying much, which is great for my fellow poor college students. Most of these can be put together with items you have in your own closet! Scroll down for some budget-friendly Halloween costume ideas!

1. Go Classic- Black Cat, Witch

If you’re looking for the easiest costume to put together, think back to when you were a kid. Grab a pair of black tights and a crop top, draw some whiskers on with eyeliner, and pick up a pair of ears from Walmart. Voila! You’re a black cat. Wanna be a witch? Pull out your favorite skater dress, add some fun tights and boots, then just grab a hat. A swipe of burgundy lipstick and a statement necklace spice things up-broom is optional!

2. Go Vintage- Audrey Hepburn, Bonnie And Clyde

While you’ll see quite a few black cats and witches out this Halloween, you’ll probably see less of these characters. Vintage-styled costumes are a lot of fun to wear, and these two are iconic enough that you won’t have to explain what you are every other minute. For Bonnie and Clyde, a sweater vest with a skirt, a beret, a fake pistol and a partner should do it (add some fake money bags for a hint if you think you need to). Audrey Hepburn as Breakfast at Tiffany’s Holly Golightly is one of the most well-known film characters of all time. I actually dressed up as her myself last year (click here if you want to see how that turned out!). Just pick a dress with a classic silhouette, grab a pair of black gloves, and some pearls, then finish off the look with a bun and a tiara. If you have one, a cigarette holder really pulls it together! (I made one out of a chopstick.)

3. Go Disney

There’s a reason that we’re obsessed with Disney characters-they’re easy to recognize and easy to make a costume from things you already own! Here’s some inspiration for a couple of my favorite characters.

As you can see from this post, I’m getting a little obsessed with Polyvore haha. You can follow me here, I’d love to check out your accounts!

What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Any fun plans? Are you going as any of these? Let me know in the comments! And if you still can’t decide what you’d like to be this year, here’s a CollegeFashion quiz to help you decide. Thanks for stopping by!

Eyeshadow Steals- $2

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’m finally home and unpacked from my first year at college, and it’s so nice to be home 🙂 It feels great to have so much more space to myself. I’ve been doing lots of drugstore bargain hunting for new makeup products, and here’s a couple of my latest favorites!

I found these lovely little eyeshadows at a clearance sale at my local Walgreens for just fifty cents each, along with this cute little brush for just $1! You’re probably sick of hearing me gush about Wet N Wild by now, but it really is such a great brand, with surprisingly high quality products for incredibly low prices! I picked up the shades Panther and Creme Brulee.

These cute little powders are perfect! They’re well pigmented and matte, and the Creme Brulee shade works great for an everyday color, while Panther is a great shade to combine with other colors to create a evening out look. It’s a lovely smokey shade that’s easy to blend.

The brush is perfect for eyeshadows and highlighting, and I haven’t had any trouble with the bristles falling out yet (fingers crossed!). It spreads the colors very evenly as well.

What do you think? Have you found any drugstore steals lately? Do you prefer high-end shadows, or do you like to find bargain prices? How would you wear these shades? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

4 Ways To Increase Your Productivity

As the end of this semester approaches and finals are looming, my stress levels are rocketing off the charts. With two projects, an essay, and an exam coming up, I feel like I’m working on something around the clock. When you’ve got so much to do, sometimes it seems easier to do nothing instead of tackling it all, but you’ve got to stay productive! Here’s 4 ways that I’ve come up with to decrease my stress levels and increase my productivity.

It’s easy to get caught up in social media online that distracts you from the tasks you’re trying to accomplish. Take an hour and do something technology-free. Take a walk, bake something, read a book-just do it without using your screens. You’ll feel so refreshed without getting tangled up in the day to day minutia of Facebook, Twitter, and email.

Tidy Up

A place for everything and everything in its place can be applied directly to how frazzled you feel. Having a clean work area can make a big difference in how you feel about getting work done. Tidy your desk or bedroom, and you’ll see a big decrease in stress levels and a big increase in productivity! Getting things done seems so much more appealing with a great work space. I like to keep flowers on my desk to make me want to sit there more.

Treat Yo Self

When you finish a project or assignment, give yourself a reward! Little treats like cookies or candies tend to work well for me, but you can tailor this to whatever you like. Some like to reward themselves with $5 in shopping money whenever they finish a task. Find what works for you and use it to motivate yourself!

Get Outside

Girl Pointing At Sky In Summer

Getting outside for a breath of fresh air can do wonders for you. A walk, by yourself or with friends, maybe a jog or run, or even just taking your work outside can do wonders for your outlook. The air and gentle breezes make everything feel calming and relaxing, and a relaxed work environment can do so much for your productivity!

What do you think? What strategies work for you? Which way is your favorite? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

DIY Easy Flower Crown

On Pinterest and on others’ blogs lately, I’ve been seeing so many pictures of Coachella and boho-inspired outfits. So in the spirit of my festival season, (my favorite time of year!) I’ve decided to share with you all how to make your very own flower crown! And the best part? This cost me less than $3 to make!

What You’ll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Elastic
  • Faux flowerscrown1

I got these fake flowers at Wal-Mart for $2.97 total! This is a very budget friendly craft, and so cute! You can use any kind of fake flowers you like. I chose larger ones, but if you’d like a more subtle statement there’s so many varieties available! Check out your local craft stores for more options too! You can find elastic there as well if you don’t have any lying around like I did 🙂crown2

Let’s Get Started!

Remove the flowers from the stems Mine pulled off fairly easily, but some may be more difficult and require scissors. I chose to also remove and use the leaves that came on the stems for a little variety.

Take the elastic and tie it around your head. Don’t tie it too tightly, leave a little wiggle room! You don’t want to cut off circulation haha. But also make sure that it’s not too loose so it’ll easily stay on your head.
crown3Lay out the flowers how you like them around the band before attaching them so you’ll have an idea to work from. Don’t be afraid to change it up as you go though! I put my largest and brightest one in the middle, then alternated the leaves and carnations going around the sides.

Now for the sewing! Thread your needle and slide it through the little thin plastic tubes where the flower or leaf attached to the stem. Putting it through this part is easier than trying to force it through the thicker middles of the flowers, and it looks the same once they’re attached.crown5 Continue around, attaching as many flowers or leaves as you’d like! I chose to only cover it halfway, but if you are using smaller flowers you may want to circle the whole thing. You can also space them further apart, and do lots of different patterns! Don’t be afraid to get creative!crown6The finished product!

Try This At Home- Nautical-Inspired Nail Art

Today I wanted to share with you a fun spring nail art design! Most often, we lean towards the florals for spring right away. Here’s an idea that incorporates spring trends without a floral in sight! I used mint and a silvery-grey color, but you can use any two colors as long as one is light and one is dark. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need:nautical1

You’ll need a bobby pin or small paintbrush, one light color of nail polish, and one dark color. I recommend trimming your nails to uniform shapes before beginning! I used Black Poppy nail polish in grey and Sally Hansen in Green Tea. The green tea polish is a lovely mint shade that I just adore. It dries very quickly, applies smoothly in just one coat, and lasts about a week! It’s one of my very favorites. The Black Poppy polish is one that I’ve had for a couple years, and unfortunately the line has now been discontinued 😦

nautical2Step One:

Start with your nails clean and dry. Apply the Sally Hansen Green Tea polish to all nails and allow to dry completely before proceeding.

nautical5Step Two:

On your ring finger, place 3 dots of the grey polish in a triangle with the end of the bobby pin-it’s great for making polka dots!

nautical6 Step Three:

Using the bobby pin, connect from the left dot to the right dot in a U shape. Add a line going up from the middle dot, and then add a small circle on top of it. Finish off the anchor by making the left and right dots into little triangles. Voila!

nautical7 Step Four:
Add a large stripe down the middle of each nail, with a smaller stripe on either side. Congratulations! You’re all done! You are now sporting some of spring’s biggest trends on your nails-pastels, nautical themes, and stripes!

If you prefer, you can add a top coat, but I didn’t bother. Don’t forget to take a picture of your nails when you’re done! If you post it to Instagram, feel free to tag me! 🙂 Link below.

Mint To Be

Yesterday was such a lovely day out! It’s finally beginning to consistently be warm out here in New York, which has gotten me wearing my favorite dresses again! This dress was a Christmas gift from my cousin this year, and I love it! It’s made of a lovely flowy chiffon, with such cute cutouts on the sides and back. It’s a pretty mint color with silver polka dots all over, and I just can’t get over how different and fun it is! horses3

I slipped on my berry-colored Mary Jane heels and grabbed my matching berry lipstick! I kept my jewelry simple with just a couple silver rings, and I grabbed a vintage jean jacket to make my outfit a little more casual. This dress is so versatile-I can dress it up with heels or down with sandals! I love the airy feel that the cutouts provide.horses4

Outfit Inspiration-Lace on Lace

Top: Forever21-similar, Bralette: Amazon, Sunnies: Amazon, Lipstick: Artistry, Poetry Book: Amazon

When I’m trying to put an outfit together, I look for inspiration everywhere! In the things in my room, the things outside my window, and of course in other’s blogs and Instagram accounts. I’m sure you’ve seen lots of these types of outfit inspiration shots before on social media. I love them so much! They show parts of an outfit, but leave the rest up to your imagination. I especially enjoy when they throw a couple fun things into the shot that aren’t necessarily accessories, but really add to the spirit of the outfit. I included this poetry collection in my shot because it fits the black and white theme and the general feel of the look I’m going for.

Here I took a white boxy lace top and a black lace bralette for an interesting, textured multidimensional feel. I grabbed my round sunglasses and the poetry book to channel some of those 60s beatnik vibes, and grabbed a reddish-brown lipstick to add a little color!

I keep a bunch of this type of outfit inspiration picture on my phone for days when I’m running late. There’s enough in it that I have something to go off of, but it’s not a complete outfit, so I can put a different spin on it every day! What do you think of these sources of inspiration? Do you like them or do you prefer other ways of getting inspired? Let me know what you think! See this post on my Instagram too 🙂

Shades of Orchid-My April Lip Picks

This spring, I’ve been loving purpley-pink lip colors. Mauve, plum, periwinkle, magenta, mulberry-they’re so lovely and such great colors to spruce up that perfect spring outfit 🙂 Today I want to share with you my four favorite lip products in these colors.

lipcomp2From left to right: Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Uptown Mauve, Wet N Wild lipstick in Just Garnet, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fuschia Fusion, and Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Color Gloss in Dashing Orchid.

lipcomp1    1. Dashing OrchidGloss in Dashing Orchid First up is the Maybelline gloss! I put on these lip products for this post in order of what was easiest to remove haha. This is a fairly thick gloss that’s extremely pigmented and shiny. It goes on really easily and also smells divine! This is the most purple in color of the four products-I would describe it as a deep lavender. It lasts fairly well for being a gloss and stays on for about 2-3 hours if you don’t eat or drink. This is a great choice if you don’t like taking the time out to apply a lipstick, but still like having color on your lips. They come in a whole range of colors too!lipcomp4     2. Fuschia Fusionlipcomp5 Next up-Fuschia Fusion by Revlon! This is a creamy lipstick that goes on as a bright magenta color. It’s really a true fuschia, and goes on as quite pink for me. It has great staying power, lasting about 5 hours without reapplying. I got it as a gift, and it’s brighter than something I would normally wear on a day-to-day basis, but it’s great for a night out or to change things up once in a while!lipcomp6

3. Uptown Mauve
lipcomp7 The Milani lipstick is one that I’ve been enjoying for a while now. This is my go-to, everyday lipstick when I’m running out the door late for an 8 am class. It’s subtle enough to wear everyday, but pigmented enough to really add to your look. I love this lipstick so much! It also has that signature watermelon scent that comes with Milani products, which I think is so yummy. When I wear it, I only reapply it after eating or drinking and it lasts all day!lipcomp8     4. Just Garnet

lipcomp10I talked about this Wet N Wild lipstick in my March Favorites post-check it out here for a more in depth description! I’ll just say again how fun this color is for spring! It’s highly pigmented and goes on very smoothly. I sometimes experience some tugging when putting on the Milani, but I never get that with this one! I encourage you to check out Wet N Wild’s lipstick in your local drugstore if you haven’t already

Mixing Patterns and a Mini Road Trip

Spring break is officially over, which means tomorrow it’s back to classes for me…fortunately I was able to get lots of good memories in before it ended! It was my birthday a couple weeks ago, and as a fun little birthday present to me, I bought myself these oversized round sunglasses off Amazon for only $9! I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them, and I know I’m going to have a lot of fun wearing them this spring and summer! They’re a perfect standout accessory to add a little flair to an outfit.

Driving back to college three or so hours away can be a struggle sometimes, so I came prepared with my sunnies, some snacks, and a comfy outfit. I started off with black ankle-length leggings and my favorite oversized black-and-white striped shirt. My trusty black peacoat and tan oxfords are staples, and my new favorite sunglasses are now too of course! I love this scarf, it’s a navy and maroon infinity scarf with flowers and swallows printed on it. For a closer look at the patterns, see the pictures below 🙂

I also swiped on a little of one of my favorite lipsticks, aptly named Plumrose. The color matches up with the colors in my scarf! I added turquoise studs too.albany8.0

This is a really easy way to mix patterns. Mixing larger prints with smaller ones is a way to mix patterns without the effect becoming overwhelming. And you don’t have to wear a patterned top with patterned pants-throwing a patterned pair of shoes, scarf, or bag is another great way to incorporate patterns into your outfits!

albany43.0Snacks always make long car rides more survivable! I try to bring along healthier ones, like these yummy strawberries. I can’t wait to go strawberry picking myself this summer!

We were lucky enough to see a beautiful sunset on the way back-a lovely ending to a lovely day! I love road trips, even if they’re just shorter ones like this. What about you? Any tips for pattern mixing? Leave a comment and let me know! I hope you all have a lovely week 🙂
