Double Denim

October really is here! Fall’s just about in full swing, there are leaves on the ground and the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back! Midterms are approaching here, and I find myself leaning more and more toward items that are easy to throw on in the morning with little to no planning. This may be in fact the first time I’ve ever featured pants on Color Me Kiki! (Once leggings made an appearance, and once shorts, but those don’t really count.) I tend to wear only skirts and dresses, but now that the temperature is dropping, I have to pull my dreaded pants out every once in a while. These black jeans are the only pair I actually like wearing.

I slipped on this semi-cropped black, beige, and red patterned sweater, then added a black scarf and my tan oxfords. I think oxfords are the perfect fall shoe: they keep your feet warm, but are still light so that you don’t have to trudge around in heavy boots just yet. This mustard beanie kept my ears warm.

I added a denim jacket, because that’s one of the classic fashion rules that I think should always be broken; there’s nothing wrong with denim on denim, especially when it’s two different shades like the black and blue ones I’m wearing here. I love wearing a chambray shirt with black denim too!

Denim Shift Dress

shift10

Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday! I hope wherever you are is cooler than here; temperatures are off the charts and all I want to do is spend all day in the pool with a cold smoothie!
Today was another oppressively hot one, so I thought it was the perfect day to show you guys this sleeveless denim shift dress! You may remember it from my Back To School Haul the other day. It’s my favorite piece lately! It’s so swingy and cool, and just so easy to wear. I paired it with my favorite oxfords, a bronze necklace, and this lovely little coin purse for some fun vintage vibes.

I threw my hair up to get it off my neck, and added a simple winged eyeliner look. Aren’t the mountains just gorgeous here in Vermont? I love the summer scenery!

Lovely in Leather

Today’s outfit of the day is a bit of a contradiction! I paired my favorite button-up dark wash chambray shirt with a faux leather skater skirt I found on Forever 21 ages ago. Usually leather doesn’t make you think girly, but this skirt does exactly that.  I love to wear the skirt because it mixes such an edgy fabric with such a feminine shape, and the laser-cut flowers on the hem add the perfect cutesy detail. I added black tights to stay warm, and grabbed my black oxford heels, since it’s finally warm enough to wear heels without slipping on the ice.

This necklace is one of my favorites. It was a Christmas gift from my grandmother this past year, and I am in love with it! The turquoise shade and geometric shape makes it a standout touch in any outfit. Continuing with the geometric vibe, I added stud-shaped earrings too.

Since I had on different shades of blue, I grabbed my deep red lipstick for a classic contrast. I kept the rest of my makeup simple since I had such a bold lip color, just putting on a little powder and mascara to brighten my face! I’m a huge fan of the Milani lipsticks they were selling at Kmart 2 for $6 a while back; for such a cheap lipstick, they’re such vibrant colors and they go on so well! They do tend to dry your lips out though unfortunately. I painted my nails a color aptly named “Sangria”, to coordinate somewhat with the lipstick.

I just love that flower detail on the faux leather! So much fun, and such a great combination.

Plum Tights and Spring Breezes

Spring has almost arrived!  After a long, loooong winter here in upstate New York, it’s a huge relief to be able to go outside without a million layers on. I took advantage of the above-forty degree temperature to wear one of my favorite dresses, a blue and white one I found on Modcloth. Its fifties-inspired classic silhouette and pretty pattern makes it a favorite year-round, but I especially enjoy it for spring because its light blue color and white patterns remind me of clouds in a summer sky!

I added a fuzzy white cardigan and some plum-colored tights to keep me warm. I love the way the blue and purple look together, and tights are still a must where I live to keep from freezing!

I wore my brown oxfords, which complement the colors in my outfit nicely and play into the slightly vintage vibe the dress gives off. I love a good pair of oxford shoes! As much as I love wearing them with a dress and tights, I can’t wait til it warms up and I can wear them with shorts and skirts minus the tights.
