Travel Bucket List 2016

I love to travel and go to new places. I think that exploring this amazing world that we live in is the best thing anyone can do! By coming into contact with new people and places, we broaden our horizons. So that’s why I’m so excited to be able to share with you my list of places I’ll be traveling to in 2016! From Central America to the wild wild West, to very close to home, I have lots of exciting things planned! I can’t wait to hear where you’ll be going too 🙂

MY TRAVEL BUCKET LIST

First let me preface this list by saying that I am very lucky to be given so many opportunities to travel! I can’t express enough how lucky I feel as a 19 year old to be able to visit amazing places like these. But anyway, without further ado!

1) The Wild West!

I’m going to be spending my summer working as a counselor on a giant Boy Scout camp in the Rocky Mountains! I’m a Vermonter who’s never been further west than Minneapolis, so to be traveling approximately 1,861 miles to New Mexico for a summer job is something I’m really looking forward to!

2) The Dominican Republic

I am so excited to be heading to the beautiful Dominican Republic in March. However, this isn’t a vacation! I’m volunteering with a nonprofit foundation called Wine To Water to help bring clean drinking water to people who can’t access it. We’ll be drilling wells and making water filters to distribute! I hope to make a difference there, even just in my small way. Clean water is such a huge environmental issue, and it’s one I’m passionate about.

(If you’d like to donate to my fundraising efforts for this cause, you can click here! 🙂 )

3) Climb 3 Adirondack mountains!

I love to hike, and one of my lifelong bucket list items is to climb all 46 of the Adirondack mountains. This year I want to be able to add 3 to my list! They’re all located in upstate New York, so it should be fairly easy haha! Some of the peaks are really quite difficult though. I’ll start off simple!

There’s my travel plans for 2016! Hopefully I’ll get to add some more day trips in as we go through 2016 🙂 Where are you headed this year? What places have you always wanted to go to? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Short Hair, Short Skirt, Don’t Care

     I hate being professional.

shorthair1

I think that fashion shouldn’t be restricted. I hate dress codes in any form. I feel that restricting what I can wear is like restricting my freedom of speech. Fashion is art. I will use my fashion as graffiti if I want to- bold, larger than life, full color six stories high!

shorthair4

But I totally get why we need dress codes. We have to have some semblance of professionalism in the workplace, in the classroom, in order to properly represent the institution I attend.

shorthair2

As a nursing student, I’m constantly followed by dress codes. Nothing too short, no crop tops, closed-toed shoes only. No dyed hair, no fake nails, no nail polish. No shorts, no jeans, nothing low cut. Nothing fun!! I feel like I’m being stifled and strangled!

shorthair5

So here is an outfit that’s totally inappropriate for class, work, and anywhere else I have to be, featuring a crop top and a too-short skirt. Fashion is the best form of self-expression; it’s the one that everyone everywhere takes part in every day.

shorthair3

On another note, I cut my hair and I’m loving it! I took off about 8 inches, which is the most I’ve ever done! It was time for a change 🙂

shorthair6

The top I’m wearing in this post is featured in Back To School Haul, while my ankle booties can be seen again in my August Favorites post.

What do you think? How do you feel about dress codes? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Splurge, Spend, or Save: Bronzers

bronzers1

Today I’m excited to introduce the first installment in a new post series that I’m titling Splurge, Spend, or Save! Each time I’ll pick a type of product and find a higher-end, mid-range, and low-price version of that product, and review all three to see which type is most worth purchasing! This time, the focus is on bronzers.

bronzers3

Today we have three bronzers: the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer, the Milani Baked Bronzer, and the Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer. These are the Splurge, Spend, and Save, respectively. I reviewed the Tarte bronzer and the Wet N Wild bronzer previously here and here.

bronzers6

SPLURGE:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in the shade Park Avenue Princess. This product retails for $30.00 for 0.32 oz. It is more matte than the other two products, but still has shimmer to it. I find this one to look most natural on my skin, although if you’re not thorough with blending, you’ll get some pretty harsh lines. Great product for a subtle glow.

bronzers4

SPEND:

Milani Baked Bronzer in shade 06 Golden. Described as a deep bronze tan with gold shimmer, this product retails for $9.99. It comes with a compact mirror section underneath that also holds this brush. This product is vegan, and can be used dry for a more sheer look or wet for an intense one. I usually wear this daily! The gold shimmer is subtle enough that this is really very wearable. And you can’t beat the pretty gold packaging.

bronzers5

SAVE:

Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer in the shade Ticket To Brazil. You can find this at Walgreens for just $2.99. This product is much more sheer than the others, and has a slight shimmer. This is a great product to play around with if you’re testing out bronzer for the first time, but it has very little staying power and doesn’t last more than a few hours at the most.

bronzers7

From right to left: Milani, Wet N Wild, Tarte

bronzers2

THE VERDICT: SPEND

I find that the Milani baked bronzer is really a great everyday product, and for just $10, you really can’t go wrong. I love that it’s vegan as well, which I think is really important in makeup. I use it to contour as well as to just add a healthy glow, and it lasts the whole day! If you’re looking to splurge on a product, though, the Tarte version is really quite good as well.

What do you think? Have you tried any of these bronzers? Do you have a favorite that’s not on the list? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

OZ Naturals Face Mask Review

facemask2

Am I the only one who gets very skeptical of products that claim amazing things? Sometimes you’ll read the back of a product, and it claims to freshen, revitalize, renew, do your homework, and take the trash out too! I’m never sure what to believe in today’s advertising industry, so when I got this face mask that claimed to be “a botanical skin tsunami”, I was rather skeptical to say the least!

I received this Amino Herbal Hydration Mask in my August Ipsy bag, and I was so excited to test it out as soon as I saw it! It’s a 100% vegan, cruelty free, and 72% organic product made right here in the USA, so I was already pumped before I even read the ingredients list! According to the seller, this product hydrates, plumps, and nourishes skin cells. It claims to be gentle enough for daily use and that it will “leave skin hydrated, radiant, and more youthful looking.” Let’s see if it lived up to its advertising!

facemask3

I’ve been using this product for four days now, and I have to say, so far it actually has made an incredible difference in my skin! I apply it to my skin directly after gently exfoliating in the shower, leave it on for about 20 minutes, rinse, and then follow with my normal moisturizing routine. My skin looks smoother and is plumper and more deeply moisturized. I think the hyaluronic acid in this product is the main culprit behind the great resurfacing to my skin, but this mask also contains vitamin B5 and vitamin E, two great things for your skin. Since I have quite dry skin, this was a great product for me. I’m not sure what results it would have on oily or combination skin however. Since it is meant to add moisture to dry skin, I don’t think I would recommend it for those skin types-it might cause more trouble than good!

facemask4

Overall, I am very pleased with this product. This is one case of advertising that actually accurately described what the product does, although calling it “a botanical skin tsunami” might be going a little far haha. It has quickly become a major part to my skin routine! I would recommend it to anyone looking to add moisture or plumpness to their skin. You can find the full-sized version of it here for USD $21.99.

What skin products are you loving lately? Do you hate false advertising too? Any favorite face masks for summer? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by!

Denim Shift Dress

shift10

Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday! I hope wherever you are is cooler than here; temperatures are off the charts and all I want to do is spend all day in the pool with a cold smoothie!
Today was another oppressively hot one, so I thought it was the perfect day to show you guys this sleeveless denim shift dress! You may remember it from my Back To School Haul the other day. It’s my favorite piece lately! It’s so swingy and cool, and just so easy to wear. I paired it with my favorite oxfords, a bronze necklace, and this lovely little coin purse for some fun vintage vibes.

Try This At Home- Negative Space Nails

summer nail tutorial

Today I have something simple and fun to share with you! I received this Formula X nail polish in my last Ipsy bag (I’m so obsessed with Ipsy. So. Obsessed.) and I’ve been searching for the perfect way to wear it ever since! It’s a wonderful coral pink shade, perfect for summer! I decided to use it to create an interesting negative space nail design. I’ve been seeing lots of great negative space nails lately, and I think it’s such a cool and laid-back way to wear nail polish for summer. It’s very easy to do, and super easy to customize to your personal style. Here’s how!

You’ll Need:

  • Nail polish of your choice
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Any top coat

summer nail tutorial

I cut my tape into a wave shape and applied it to the top half of my nails, then simply painted over it and removed it, leaving my nails half coral and half bare for my take on the negative space nail trends I’ve been seeing all over lately! I think that this is such a unique way to show your personality, and if you mess up a little, no one will know it wasn’t on purpose! You can cut your tape into any shape you would like in order to put your own spin on this look! I’ve seen some very cool geometric ways of rocking this nail trend.

nail-tutorial3

As for the Formula X nail polish itself, I was extremely impressed! It dries very quickly, and it only took me one coat to reach this level of pigmentation. It’s also a perfect color for summer! I’m very happy with this product and with how my nails turned out!

What do you think? Have you tried negative space nails? What’s your favorite summer trend? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

What I Think- The iPhone 6

iphone 6

Today I’d like to share with you all my take on the latest version of the Apple phone-the iPhone 6. Recently I was due for an model upgrade on my phone plan, and I chose this model after much hemming and hawing! I like having an iPhone over a different brand because I work from an Apple computer, and I like being able to sync my music and photos between the two-it makes things very simple when taking photos on my iPhone that I want to use on the blog. That’s another reason I chose this model, because it’s got a great camera on it for a cell phone, and I can’t seem to stay away from Instagram no matter how hard I try!

I wasn’t expecting to like this phone very much because it’s so much larger than my last one. I’m a fan of smaller ones, because it’s really hard to get these giant phones into the back pockets of my jeans! But I haven’t really minded the extra size on this. It definitely has a much longer battery life than my last one, and that’s always a plus.

It’s so sleek and pretty, I can’t bring myself to put it is a case yet! Although I probably should soon, I’m a little clumsier with my electronics than I’d like to think 🙂 When I do finally get around to getting a case for it, here are my top picks! If any of you have this phone as well, please let me know what you’ve found works well on it! All of these cases are also available for other models and brands of phones.

Making Waves

Happy Friday, everyone! I thought I’d show you one of my favorite slightly more formal outfits in today’s OOTD. Today was such a beautiful sunny day that I just had to pull out one of my favorite vintage-inspired ModCloth dresses.

lake1

This lovely floral tea dress is my favorite to wear to slightly dressier occasions, like family dinners and the like. I adore the vintage cut with its longer skirt and deep V back. It’s a perfect color combination of navy and white with an adorable floral print. I grabbed it from ModCloth on sale for just $24.99, and I’m so pleased with it! It works for so many occasions, and I instantly fall in love with anything vintage-inspired and floral to boot!

lake2

I just had so much fun taking these pictures! Sometimes it’s nice to shake up your blogging routine. Every outfit and every day is different and unique, so I feel that each photoshoot should reflect that! It was also such a hot day, it felt lovely to cool my bare feet in the lake 🙂

lake7

lake6

I added my favorite floppy maroon hat and lipstick, as well as my great maroon Mary Jane heels. I just love these shoes-just the right combination of vintage and modern! Plus they were on sale for just $14 when I got them-can’t beat that price, and the quality is great! They’ve lasted a year or more now, and I’m still head over heels for them haha. Maroon and navy is such a great combo, I felt the accessories and dress really complemented each other. What do you think?

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’m finally home and unpacked from my first year at college, and it’s so nice to be home 🙂 It feels great to have so much more space to myself. I’ve been doing lots of drugstore bargain hunting for new makeup products, and here’s a couple of my latest favorites!
50cent2

I found these lovely little eyeshadows at a clearance sale at my local Walgreens for just fifty cents each, along with this cute little brush for just $1! You’re probably sick of hearing me gush about Wet N Wild by now, but it really is such a great brand, with surprisingly high quality products for incredibly low prices! I picked up the shades Panther and Creme Brulee.

50cent3

These cute little powders are perfect! They’re well pigmented and matte, and the Creme Brulee shade works great for an everyday color, while Panther is a great shade to combine with other colors to create a evening out look. It’s a lovely smokey shade that’s easy to blend.

The brush is perfect for eyeshadows and highlighting, and I haven’t had any trouble with the bristles falling out yet (fingers crossed!). It spreads the colors very evenly as well.

Landslide

Today I’m channeling some serious seventies vibes! This outfit was my take on the great seventies trends that have been going on this season. I couldn’t help titling the post after the classic Stevie Nicks song-I just love her!

I wore my new romper that I just received from Forever21. I’d never bought a romper before, and I was hesitant to try them out, but I’m so glad I did! They’re such a versatile addition to any wardrobe-there’s so many different styles, so no matter what your style is you can find one for you-whether you prefer bohemian, preppy, or edgier vibes. I’m 5’8″, so finding ones that fit me has been really difficult! I was pretty worried about this one, but the wonderful Forever21 came through again, and it luckily fits perfectly. I added a long knit cardigan, my heeled suede booties, lots of jewelry, and my new favorite hat- this amazing maroon sunhat!

nicks1

This romper features lace straps and edging, as well as pockets, an elastic waist, and adorable buttons up the back! I added some of my favorite silver necklaces too at different lengths. I swiped on some plum lipstick to match the maroon sunhat too!

nicks2 nicks5

nicks8

Channeling Stevie Nicks by spinning in my cardigan…I’m going to need a floral kimono to properly copy her!

nicks4

nicks6

I added some volume and curl to my hair with my favorite salt spray. I love all the 70s trends cropping up, so I added as many as possible to this outfit-round sunnies, lots of jewelry, big floppy hats, and suede booties! I just need something fringe to complete it!
